I am thinking of switching from cable modem to DSL. I understand that the closer you are to the actual physical building that the DSL runs out of the better. The Company we would use is Verizon, and their local hub is within 1 mile of my house.
So, pros and cons? Is either one faster?

Hi Francine!
I can't speak for Cable - but we have DSL at home and work -- we are about 2 blocks from hub at work and it is in our backyard at home -- home much faster than work -- both fast compared to dial up

I just saw this today. A little late hope you still want to hear my experiences.
I had DSL for about 4 or 5 years. I loved it and was very worried when my husband switched to Cable. I dont see any difference at all. He assures me things are downloading faster so I have to take that at his word. We was able to get rid of our phone because we have cell phones. Its so cool to not have a phone on the wall anymore. And so far no sales calls on the cell phones. Hope that lasts. We dont use ou number for any lists. In fact when I had to sign up for a card at a local grocery store I still give them my old phone number. I figure if they sell it its their problem for selling a wrong number.
By the way we have been cable now for about 3 months

Francise, I use DSL at my office and a Cable modem at home. I try to compare them and I feel my cable modem is faster and downloads faster. One thing to take into consideration is what speed of dsl you are getting. At the office we have the middle whatever speed that is and are moving up to a faster one. I never knew there were different speeds at different prices.
I just went to MSN site and checked mine and it says I am running at 1700kbps right now. How accurate that is, I don't know.
I do love my cable modem.
