We found ourselves in Pittsburgh last weekend and made a visit to the National Aviary. The place is pretty cool with lots of differant sections filled with differant birds. It is set up all indoors so most of the birds are behind glass and that makes taking pictures a little difficult. That's my excuse for the quality of some of the shots, and i'm sticking to it... ;)

I took lot's of pics so I won't be posting them all today.

The first exhibit is a couple of parrots behind some dirty plexiglass.

The next section had Steller's Sea-Eagles and Bald Eagles. These guys were huge.

Yup, that's Lizzy. She's going back toward her natural color.

Awesome photos! I love the boat-billed heron. And your ladyfolk look lovely!

I've never seen a Stellar's Sea Eagle in person. I think the next time I'm in Pittsburgh, I'll have to finally make it to the Aviary. I'm usually too busy stuffing my face with pizza so much better than we get here that Seattle's doesn't even deserve the name.

Sorry Sandy - it was a quick trip and more for business than pleasure...

Tough shooting through glass and indoors. Dark and dirty glass to boot as well. You did great and the two "chicks" at the end brightened up the day I am sure.

Nice photos, John. I like the red parrot, the second one. I love the look in his eye.

Here are some more pictures from the Pittsburgh Aviary. I know these would be a lot more interesting if I posted the names of the different types of birds. But that would have meant paying attention and maybe even writing stuff down. That didn’t happen so just look at the pictures and make up your own names.

Then we came to an area where you could go in and feed lorikeets.

WOW, beautiful photos, John!!! I always wonder and admire the natural beauty colors. How could they be that beautiful? That pigeon is pretty unique and gorgeous.

Thanks for sharing, :)

Looove the pics and the names you made up. From my zoo volunteering experience, I even knew a few (but not as many as I should):

No Neck Gray Macaw = African Gray Parrot
Blacklight Warbler = Fairy Bluebird (I am not making this up)
(bird) = (one of 10,000 interchangeable shorebirds/plover type)
some sort of pigeon = Victoria Crowned Pigeon (they're huge, aren't they!)

:D Shades of old Road Runner cartoons with those names, John. Thanks for the laughs this morning.

Those lorikeets are bright and colorful! Better light to as the colors just leaped off my screen. Thanks for sharing a fun time at the aviary!
