Many of you know about the beautiful afghans made by ILoveMickey (Cheryl) that were probably the most desired and stolen items at the tagrel gift exchanges. Picking next to last at the MF'08 event I came close to getting one, but had it stolen from me by the person that picked last (hmmmm, one of the event organizers I might add, I'm not sayin' anything, I'm just sayin' ;) ). In any case my church has a prayer shawl ministry and I asked one of the ladies that makes them if she could make a Mickey & Minnie afghan for me and she graciously agreed. This is the result.

I offered to pay her for her efforts, but she refused. I then said I would be making a donation to the church in her name which she agreed to privided I designated the gift to the prayer shawl ministry since some of the ladies have a difficult time being able to afford the supplies.

Beautiful afghan, I love how the stitch is tighter than what you normally see in an afghan-it should be so much cosier that way!

Congrats on the afghan it looks wonderful. It looks very 'blankety' with the close weave.

Considering they are impossible to buy at any store, they would be great for a charity auction.

I Love It!!! I'm so sorry you hadn't gotten one, I still owe my mom one lol

Unfortunately I tried to make one in December and I can't remember how I put them together.:(

That's great work. My grandmother used to knit afghans all the time; I have one that she made for me when I was in high school.

Love it! Hooray for Mark finally getting a Mickey Minnie afghan. And by requesting it through your prayer shawl ladies, even more people got to share in the Disney love.

Now, if Cheryl can just remember how she made hers maybe her mom can finally get hers, too.;) Otherwise, she may be contcting the prayer shawl group.

Mark, it is beautiful! I got one made by ILoveMickey a couple of years ago and I consider myself pretty lucky. Enjoy!

I've tried to figure out how you made them too. Did you crochet or knit yours? I was trying to figure out ways to do it by memory of what you did and didn't get very far. I'm too much of a novice, to do what you did without an actual pattern to follow.

I thought of trying it a different way then you did it, and looking at Timon's makes me think I was on the right track.

First though I have to finish the covers for glider chair in my bedroom. I've put that aside for far too long, and now I'll have to go back and figure out what my plan was exactly.

Rosebud, I crocheted them. I know i started with 12 DC and made a circle and then the 2nd round I put 2 DC in each of the first. That was the head, then the ears were just 12 DC. I sewed the ears to the head. The part I can't remember is the row I crocheted around the whole head. I'll remember eventually, I just havne't had a lot of time to crochet lately

Just beautiful. That is truly a labor of love. Enjoy!

I just finished 2 blankets for Project Linus GAD. When I started them I really wanted to put Mickey and Minnie in there but really couldn't figure it out and gave up. Now I wish I'd tried a bit harder. It is so cute!

Thanks!

I was pretty sure I remembered it was crochet, and the heads were in the middle of rows. I already knew the hardest part was going to be figuring out how to add them in the rows - I'm too much a beginner, but I was still going to try. Then I thought I would just add them on top, which I could do. I wanted more of a hidden Mickey type of look, but seeing Mark's picture, I think I'll make at least one that way.

I've done the ears a few different ways and was hoping to avoid having to sew them on, but I haven't found a way I'm thrilled with yet. I'll probably come up with one that is perfect and then won't be able to remember exactly what I did.

Tonight I think I'll try making the heads the way you did.
