Hi guys.
Starting my plans for Dec. trip and DH and I were discussing which restaurants to make ressies for this time. We've tried some new ones and now he wants to go back to some old favorites. Haven't been to some of these in years and need your input.
California Grille (was my favorite - want to return - any opinions?)
Epcot: DH wants a change from Le Cellier. Nine Dragons used to be one of his favorites. Any opinions?
MGM: Mama Melrose was great last time. Any other favorites? He enjoyed Brown Derby and Prime Time but wants something else.
MK: Other then having lunch at CRT, we've never had a dinner meal in MK except for LTT on MVMCP night. Any opinions?
AKL: Boma was great. What about Jiko?
Downtown Disney: We never made it there last December but plan to go back. I know our all-time favorite favorite USED to be the Empress Lilly where we had our own waiter and a 5 star restaurant. How is Fulton's???
What about Portobello? (forgot if that's the name?). I know we had a very good lunch there year's ago. Any other choices?
Grand Floridian: We had two meals there waaaaay back in '94 and I only remember Narcoosee's. Is that still good? What else can you suggest?
Thanks.

Cindy, We found the Liberty Tree Tavern in the MK surprisingly good. We forgot when we booked it the dinner was a character meal. So that was a pleasant surprise.

I have to tell you Ohanas is our all-time favorite. If you've never been, I recommend you at least give it a try.
As for Epcot, we always go to R&C to get the great view of Illuminations. We even timed it right last Dec to use it as our CP pkg dinner. We got to see two great shows with great seats in the same evening!
In the MK, we were very pleased with the dinner in the castle on the night of MVMCP. The food was very good, the atmosphere...well I did say it was the castle, right? :)
I really want to try Starring Rolls Bakery in MGM this year, now that they've updated the menu with some very appealing-sounding sandwiches and salads.
Ditto for the Earl of Sandwich in DD.
I was also very intrigued by the new Artist Palate at Saratoga Springs, with their offering of "fast-casual" dining. Can't wait to try loads of new places this summer.

hi Claire,
Dave Marx (Mr. Passporter) recently reviewed the Nine Dragons restaurant and gave it a glowing review -- he said it had improved dramatically since he last visited.
You can see his review here:

H Claire,
We really enjoy Crystal Palace for evening meals. Liberty Tree lunch has always pleased us as well. Their turkey and or pot roast is great. We were not at all pleased last time we did Brown Derby, in fact all 4 adults left most of their meals. Ohana is good for food as well as atmosphere. Portabella Yacht club experiences have been above par with great food and service as well...The Japanese demo dinner/show is a treat although a bit pricy. We want to do the dinner above the land but have not had the opportunity. Boma looks to be excellent for dinner. I know it was for breakfast. Jiko was different but good. I do not know that I would go out of my way to dine there again unless you are very adventurous. With Boma you can taste a tiny bit and go back for more and not have a $25.00 plate of something you do not care for staring at you. I am sure you will find what is just right for you and Ronnie...... Good luck. :eat: :sun:

Jiko is one of my two favorite dining experiences at WDW! I don't think their choices are any more "challenging" than the California Grill and the service and atmosphere are wonderful. I still get all drooly when I think of their Berber Braised Lamb Shank. Since you enjoyed Boma, I think you should definitely give romantic Jiko a try!
I've also very much enjoyed the Portobello Yacht Club at lunch when it's not crowded. It was closed for the lunch service for a while but I've heard it has reopened.
For your Epcot area meal, you might consider a walk over to Yachtsman's Steakhouse or Shula's or even to Flying Fish (which was my other fave!). Or Teppanyaki at Japan?

Claire,
Have you ever considered 1900 Park Fare for dinner? We ate here last year for my birthday dinner and loved it! There were so many, choices at the buffet and everything tasted greaty. This is also a character meal that has Cinderella, Prince Charming, Suzy and Perla. The characters spent alot of time at our table and we had so much fun.
Another request from my crew is Ohana's, which everyone loved. Other favorites are Prime Time, LeCellier, and Teppanyaki. We will be trying some new places this year as well as some of the old favorites.
Terry is not to daring when it comes to food, adn likes the basics, so that kind of stops us from trying some places.
I will give you a full review when we return.
