I have been having fun turning some of my photos into digital art. I thought it might be fun to have a thread where we share some of the creations we make from our photos.

This is one that I did yesterday. I am using it for the April calendar on AllEars.

http://www.barriebrewerphotography.com/Other/Original-Art/post2BLB1000/776935892_y9uG5-L.jpg (http://www.barriebrewerphotography.com/Walt-Disney-World/Disneys-Animal-Kingdom/Discovery-Island/6606929_M4gnh#776935892_y9uG5-A-LB)

Go crazy, get creative and show us what you've got! Anything goes, not just Disney photos.

Ahhhh, OK..... if we turn them into digital "art" nobody can accuse us of overprocessing... ;)

OK, seriously, I love it! Georgous

OK, this is too much fun. I hated this picture when I took it.

It's from a local state park that Cathy and I visited around halloween.

I've been playing with Photoshop Elements lately myself, trying to salvage some pics that I didn't like the look of in the raw.

Nice Will! I especially like the shot with the portrait left in color.

If I may offer a small critique, I would not share the re-do of the bride holding the bouquet with said bride. Her arm looks more hairy than mine in the re-do... :yikes: ;)

i'm surprised at how much I like the ones with the black and white backgrounds. Those are so COOL!

I like the way you show the before and after, Will.

Barrie, I don't know what you do for a living, but it *should* be photography or art or
both.

John, what's not to like about that photo? It reminds me of "the road not taken. .."

Barrie
01-31-2010, 10:14 AM
John - I like that effect on Dave's photo, the insta-buff one. Could you apply that to all the photos taken of me in the past 2 years?

No, actually, the other effect, it's cool. How did you do that?

Nice stuff Will, I like the blurred background one best.

Thanks Linda, I'm working on it!

I'm not familiar with Paint Shop, but when you open a picture to edit, check and see if you have "Actions" or "Filters" on the tool bar.

Maybe someone familiar with Paint shop will pop in here.

Thanks, I have Paint Shop Pro 8. Will that do the same?

Yes, it can.

In PSP there is an Effect menu with some built-in effects that you can try on your photos.

PSP can also use Photoshop-compatible Filters, so it's possible to download special effects filters from various graphics web sites, and add them to the PSP Effects menu. I don't have PSP, so I don't know the procedure for this, but I know that it can be done.

Since many of the best effects filters are written for Photoshop, you should be able to find lots of great stuff that will work in PSP with a few Google searches for "Photoshop filters".

Well, I did a bunch of stuff. Best I can remember is that I started with the Sumi filter in Photoshop. Then I did something in Topaz, probably Topaz Clean (I really don't remember). Then I think I might have applied Poster Edges? Or not... I don't know. I just keep messing around until I get something I like. I'll try to pay more attention on the next one.

You can find a lot of textures (http://www.flickr.com/groups/textures4layers/) here. They also have some tutorials (http://www.flickr.com/groups/textures4layers/discuss/72157603788149748/) for how to do it. I've played around with textures before but I'm usually not very pleased with what I end up with. It takes a lot of fiddling to get something you like. I think I got lucky on this one - it's actually the look I was going for.
