Are we going to have a Twitter thread for the Tags to read that may not be going to Tagomania? Like we did last year for Mousefest?

Just wondering, of course any one can sign up and read the feeds from their computer too.

I think we should. I still have the Twitpic email in my cellphone, so I can send pictures. We could get them all together like last year by putting tgrl in the text and starting a thread with that search. You know that Dave would like to follow us.

Still seeing if twittering is going to be a possiblity at Tagomania. As you all know Dave is very busy and it takes his magic touch to get this new fangled tech stuff going! ;)

Thanks for asking the question.

With Dave busy, you could use hashtags (http://help.twitter.com/forums/10711/entries/49309), like #tagrel. The folks could go to Twitter and search the #tagrel tweets. Or post the URL to the posts here.

For example, there is some Disney news tweeted under #Disney.

http://twitter.com/#search?q=%23disney

Yes, I still have very limited time to set up anything special, but if people use the hashtag #tago in there tweets then people can search on them. (make sure to include the # sign).

And if I can find some time I can try to get something working.. Although it was pretty flaky last time... So, we'll have to see how it goes.

ETA: OK - I was SUPPOSED to go visit mom this afternoon, but it will have to wait and be an after dinner visit now! But I think I have the Tagomania Twitter thread working now.

Tom provided some great instructions for when we did this for MouseFest - (now updated for Tag-O-Mania).

Just remember to use the hashtag: #tago so searches find your tweets!

Let's use Twitter to keep the "Tag-O-Mania at Home" folks up-to-date on what's happening during the week. You do not need to sign up here on this thread, just be sure to carefully follow the instructions below!

To keep up on the fun from home:

No need to sign up at Twitter, simply click here (http://tagrel.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31243) to view the Tag-O-Mania Twitters thread, or click here (http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23tago) to view the tweets that Twitter search can find. If you'd like, you are also welcome to Twitter along with us. Just follow the directions below.

To become a Twitterer

(It is best to do this before you leave for Tag-O-Mania)

Sign up at Twitter (https://twitter.com/signup) to become a member. It's free!!! (Be aware that Twitter asks for your "real" name. If you provide your last name, that name may appear in posts on Tagrel and in Twitter. If you are not comfortable with that, note that you are not actually required to give your last name. Just use something that would allow others to identify you. If you already gave your last name but would now like to change it, you can always go to Twitter account settings (http://twitter.com/account/settings) later.)
If you are planning to use your cell phone to text message your Tag-O-Mania tweets, you will need to first go here (http://twitter.com/devices) to associate your cell phone number with your Twitter account. Once the association has been made, you can add your tweets to Twitter by sending a text message to Twitter's special number, 40404. You might want to send a practice message or two to make sure this is working correctly. Note: Standard text message rates apply. Twitter does not charge for these messages, but, depending on your cell phone plan, your service provider might. Be sure you to check your service plan to make sure text messages are covered; otherwise, this could get very expensive real quick!
If you have set "Protect my updates" in your Twitter settings, your messages are private and will not be searchable. This will prevent the rest of Tagrel from easily following your Tag-O-Mania updates. You can undo this by going to settings (http://twitter.com/account/settings) before leaving for Tag-O-Mania, unchecking "Protect my tweets", and then clicking Save. (You can always re-protect them after you return home.)
If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, you may want to give the free version of Twitterrific (http://iconfactory.com/software/twitterrific) a try. Available in the iTunes App Store, Twitterrific allows you to post and read Twitter messages, as well as to take advantage of your device features, such as taking a photo and sending it to twitpic, and Twittering a map link based on your current location. (The App Store Twitterific link is here (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=284540316&mt=8).)

Now that you're set up, you're ready to go!

Twittering at Tag-O-Mania

This is very important: To tag your tweets so they show up in the Tag-O-Mania Tweets thread, be sure to include the letters #tago in the text of your message, followed by a space. Having this keyword in your message text will make your tweets easily found in a Twitter search.
If you have your laptop with you at Tag-O-Mania, you can type in your tweets here (http://twitter.com/home) .
For cell phones that have been set up to Twitter(see step 2 above), you can add messages to Twitter by sending a text message to Twitter's special number, 40404.
For a mobile device such as a PDA or an iPhone, you can use http://m.twitter.com/ in your device's web browser to access the Mobile version of Twitter. If you are comfortable using a third party web site, http://hahlo.com/ offers a nice mobile interface to Twitter, including a count of the number of characters remaining when typing a message.
iPhone or iPod touch users can also use the free version of Twitterrific (http://iconfactory.com/software/twitterrific) to access Twitter functions.

Twittering Photos

If you want to Twitter photos from your mobile device or laptop, a simple way to do this is to use twitpic (http://twitpic.com/) .

There is no extra sign-up for twitpic. Instead, sign in to twitpic (http://twitpic.com/) using your Twitter username and password.
Next go to settings (http://twitpic.com/settings.do) to determine your twitpic e-mail address, and save this e-mail address in the phonebook of your device.
Then, while you are at Tag-O-Mania, e-mail any photo you'd like to share to your special twitpic e-mail address, and include in the subject line the message you want to Twitter with it (plus #tago so that Twitter search can find it). The message will automatically end up at Twitter, along with a URL link to your photo, like this (http://twitter.com/tominpok/statuses/977318456).

I hope I haven't made this too complicated. Please let me know if you see something wrong, something I've forgotten, or if something could be explained better, and I will update the instructions. Also, I have not yet associated my cellphone number with my Twitter account. Let me know if there are any useful tips for getting this to work, and I will add them here.
