Perhaps Tink, Karen or Sheryl can help with this one. Taking first cruise in Nov., and wonder about Insulin care. Can I carry it on board in a small soft sided cooler, (of course, along with RX's)and will the small 'fridge in the stateroom keep it cool, with baggie full of ice? Thanks, Figgy

Hi Figgy,
Great question. I have no idea and am interested in the answer. I guess seeing how the Alaskan Cruise is so far away, I have not thought about any of the details yet. Do the rooms have small fridges? If not then I would take a small travel case to keep it in with ice.

Yep! Your cabin steward will make sure you have ice every day, twice a day if you like. Ours asked when we would like ice service and brought it in the morning and afternoon.
The refrigerators are more "chillers", nothing ever gets REAL cold.
We have used double baggies for this. One we put ice in and zipper seal, and put the other one over it and set the vial into that one. Keeps the vial dryer and the label from getting icky. Then set it in the chiller and it should be fine.

Hi Figgy,
I've had a very easy time bringing insulin and supplies onboard... never even questioned through baggage inspections.
I think it would be a good idea for you to make sure the ship has a copy of a medical statement indicating that you will need "insulin support" while on board. If you have a travel agent, they will handle getting the form for you, and if you are handling your own travel plans, just ask to have the form faxed to you
I have yet to go on a cruise where the cruiseline didn't have sugarfree desserts at every meal :D
