I really like the avatars that everyone has. Being basically computer dumb, I'd like to have a Disney camping or a camping pic. Can anyone tell me where to look and how to do such a thing?

If you have any pictures of camping trips that you took you can always use one of those. You need to have it resized, and uploaded to make it work. I know Tagrel has been uploading avatars for folks to use here, and I bet he would help you. I would also be willing to help in the resizing department, just email the graphic you want resized.
Basically any picture can work for an avatar. You just need them to be smaller then what they are now.
You can also search the interent for graphics that you might like, and copy the graphic to your harddrive. Again, it most likely will need to be resized, but that is easy to do.

thanks Francine, and she is absolutely correct! If you send me a picture, I can resize and host it for you. I'll even update your profile to use the picture. No problem.
If you want to search for images, I really like the Google Images Search:
Google Image Search (http://www.google.com/imghp)
just type in the keywords (like 'disney' and 'camping') and see what comes up. I've tracked down some great images this way.

I really liked the one KelliJ chose, but since she has it first ...
I'll take my second pick. How's this one? Can someone re-size it for me?
Thanks
Debby
ETA: I haven't seen anyone else use this one. If someone else has it, I'll go back to searching. Sorry I didn't ask that first.

It's a darling avatar but definitely needs to be resized. It is 320 pixels across. The best size for this software is about 100 pixels x 100 pixels. No one hits that exactly so there is leeway for a tad wider. Longer is not as hard on the board as wider is. You can see by yours at the moment how it 'pushes' the text of the message box to the right. I'm sure Tag can resize it for you if that is what you want to stay with. Be aware to take it down to a good width, it will be about one third its present size. Good luck!

Thanks, Tagrel, for re-sizing me. (Now, I'd like to be a size 8; can you help? )
I was hoping that my little thingy wouldn't lose too much once re-sized and it looks like it didn't. Think I'll keep it.
Thanks again for the help. I really like this personalizing stuff.

Thanks, Sher. I'm waiting for Sharon's, too. I googled mickey and beach, but didn't get too much. Maybe someone more experienced can help. Or, maybe she's with the manatees again!!
How about it, dear Sharon?

Sharon, Just PM Tagrel, and let him know you'd like the diver smiley that is in this thread. He can set it all up for you. That or you can just post it in this thread, and I bet he'll see it too. I liked the diver smiley too. :D Enjoy!
I like this one too. It might not stand out as much, but it's an option.

Sharon, I just noticed your new avatar on another thread and wanted to comment on it there. It is just beautiful! Very unique, too. I've never seen him before. Don't you love those colors? Avatars are a great way to personalize our posts. Thanks, Tag, for putting the time into helping us get them right! :D

Hey Becky!
Don't give up yet!
I am not the best one at giving tech advice but here is what I know
The avatar or picture - must be hosted on a website. The website that hosts it must allow you to link back to it for it to work.
Sometimes Tagrel can do some technical magic and make it work.
If you are doing all of that - then I would suggest you start another post and see if the people who really know what they are talking about can help out!
Sorry I am not much help! But hang in there -- it can be fixed!

HI Becky,
I think we've got it now. I went off to the site you had in your link and found the picture and hosted it for you.
Nice choice! :D

Becky, here is where you may have gone wrong. You listed the whole page for your Soak Bear figure(which is sooo adorable). I think you only link the 'address' of the image itself. Let's try it in this post:
http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~soakbear/soakbear.gif
If it shows up in my post you can put it in your avatar.
Okay, it did so copy this below and substitute it in your profile page where the avatar is. Good luck! :)
