Val found out they are refurbishing the Treehouses. She couldn't remember when they said they would be reopen.

I plan to find out all I can about them this weekend. This is one of the places I have wanted to stay for years and never did. Now I have another chance! I would love to stay in one of them right on the water.

Would love to hear more details when you have them Rosebud - I'm with you these have held a place of interest for me, too!

I'd love more information too. :D Did I dream it, or did I actually read somewhere that CMs have been living in the treehouses? I don't know much about them, but remember seeing them in a brochure Disney sent when I was planning our first trip back in 1992.

hi Rosebud,

My dh has always wanted to stay in a treehouse, so I'll be looking for more info, too. Thanks for this tip.

They are something I've always wanted to try as well!! Maybe a group of us can get one if they're open in time for the marathon!!

These look like they would be a real kick to stay in. Will have to see what the particulars are for reserving. May have to take the friends again to fill it up!

AliciaG,

You probably saw me write that about the CMs living there. Actually there were Advanced Intern CMs living at parts of the Disney Institute after they shut it down and first started building there. I was thinking that some of them were in the Treehouses too, but my DD wasn't sure about that - so maybe or maybe not.

Yes. That was it, Rosebud. I believe you mentioned it around the time Valerie was going to have to change apartments. Thanks for jarring my memory. It's not what it used to be.

Have a great trip! :D

Wow! The Treehouses 8) The last time I saw them (on a boat from POFQ to DTD) they looked a little rundown. It would be nice it Disney would sprinkle some pixie dust on them and reopen to the public.
Maybe do some of their great themeing.

During Spring Break we took the boat from POFQ to DD and the CM talked about the refurbishing of the treehouses. He said they only had 6 or 7 left to refurbish. Since the Treehouses were grandfathered in on some code about the wetlands part of the property, they could not be torn down. So, Disney decided to refurbish them and start renting them out again. He did not know when they would be finished or when the date to book would be. He also didn't know the price but the last time they were rented out was for $350 per night.

I thought the ones so closed to the river looked creepy. Kinda like you could walk out your door to find an alligator as a front door mat.

We stayed in the treehouses in 1986, we shared one with my parents -- at that time it was a bargain. They had two bedrooms and a fold out sofa in the living area; 2 full baths, kitchen and dining area. We had our own laundry area. There was a deck all around with table and chairs, so you could eat outside, weather permitting. Housekeeping even did our dishes. It was our very first luxury vacation and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. We had peacocks on the deck most mornings and there was a bus stop just a few steps away from our front door.

Wow, Cindy, that sounds awesome! I remember seeing them in a brochure before, and thought they sounded neat for the novelty factor, but I didn't realize they were that big. I bet they'll be really nice again when they are refurbished.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with them. It seems like depending on which CM one talks to , they get a different story. In the AllEars newsletter, the CM questioned said that they were not refurbishing.

I've heard more CMs say that they are getting a facelift than not, so I am hopeful that they really are in the process of getting them together and useable! That would be TERRIF! :mickey:

They were working on some when we were there in March BUT the quesstion at the time was WAHT where/are they going to d owith them once they are done. We heard 2 different sides here(from teh same boat capt. he said he had heard 2 different things.) either reopen as a resort or a dvc or to be rented in some way to employees..
