View Full Version : And with park days comes the planning of Meets!
Tagrel

OK - there are park days selected, so now we'll need to get these great meet ideas scheduled. A few things to consider for official 'Tagrel.com' meets (ones we list here on the site):
Meets will require at least two hosts, and if a host or hosts can not attend we'll first look for new hosts before a meet is cancelled.
We don't want to canvas an entire day with meets. People need time to do their own thing as well. So, if there are too many meets for a particular day/time period we will discuss them and I will ultimately choose what to make an 'official' meet. Its a tough job, but some has to do it! ;)
I'll work with hosts to schedule meets. Send me a preferred time and we'll go from there. Be flexible and I'm sure we can make most meets work somehow!
When you guys have your meets figured out (hosts, name, description, preferred time, meet location) send me a PM with the details and we can go from there. As meets are made 'official' I will sticky the meet thread and the host will be responsible to keep a running list of attendees in the first post. You will appreciate this as time goes on and you want to remember who is coming! :D
So, feel free to ask lots of questions here and I'll do my best to answer. :)

OK, since I'm 90% sure I'll be coming, I will plan a Jellyrolls meet, but since we need two hosts, I'll need a partner in crime :)

I'll need a co-host for Begin at the End. Any volunteers?

I wish I was going Karen. I'd co-host a Jellyrolls meet, but alas, I'm not able to go this year (or next, dagnabit!!!!).

What do people think of moving begin at the end to Whispering Canyon instead? I know the name would need a change but I think a dinner meet at that location would be a lot of fun. That and they have the bottomless milkshakes! ;-)
Love to do something new and just a thought. :-)

I wouldn't mind if we had another meet at WC, maybe in conjunction with our gift exchange.
There are three things I like about Trails End....
1. The food. Fried Chicken and ribs. :eat:
2. The price. Best deal on property
3. The service. They've been exceptional at accommidating our large group.
4. Perfect leading to the Dogs and Lights Tour. (I think the dogs deserve top billing.)

I think WC would be a great place to eat. It has the silliness of PT with an all you care to eat option, a menu for those who would like to eat less than a buffet and it would be something new, different and yet vaguely similar to a PT meet and FW meet.
And see I didn't even comment on the need for the floss sister co-host!

Okay, now I'm torn....Trail's End or WC....I like both for different reasons. The thing is, Trail's End/Begin at the End has almost become a tradition. I do like the idea of doing both, with WC being a lead-in to the gift exchange.
Dave, I'll PM you about the TT meet after I talk with MyBob and Jean (starzneyes4mickey).

Looking for a co-host for Soarin' OR I will co-host another meet with someone else.
My opinion on WC is that while it would be great fun, I would prefer to stay at FW and align with a dogs tour (is there a dogs tour in October? Halloween decorations). Primary reason is concern about how many ressies will be able to be made at WCC for this big group and the fact that you can't put tables together as they are all round (I think?).

I vote for keeping Begin at the End at FW, AND having a dinner at WC! Why can't we do both?
I like the tradition of Begin, and Cathy and I both feel it gives us a reason to visit the FW area.
I also like the idea of a group dinner at WC. We have never eaten there and have always wanted to try it.

I'll second that. I've also never been to WCC and would like to try it.
I'm all for tradition, but I'm willing to try new things when there is a compelling reason. So keeping BATE as-is at Trails End and adding a new meal meet at WCC is the best of both worlds. However, scheduling could be a problem, so we should try to lock down the day and time for a WCC meet as soon as possible, so we can call for an ADR at the 180-day mark. BTW, the 180-day mark for Oct 21 is April 24.
I prefer to keep BATE at Trails end for several reasons:
1) MK area, which the majority of Tags like
2) Ft Wilderness is a nice, quite place that most of us enjoy visiting
3) Trails End is generally very easy to work with for large group ADRs (not every restaurant is as accomodating for groups above 20 or 30, and some refuse to take them at all)
4) Trails End is a buffet, which offer the maximum flexibility for folks to choose menu items that they like
5) Buffets offer more chance for folks to get up and walk around the table, mixing and talking to more people
6) There is plenty of covered space outside of Trails End for gathering the group ahead of the ADR (resort lobbies are also great, but we can't be as noisy in there without bothering other Guests)

Another benefit you missed in regards to buffets, is the checks are easier to figure out. There are only 2 prices. Adult and child.

Will,
Apparently you missed this, but Disney has gone back to 90 days in order to make ADRs (unless, of course, they've changed it yet again and I missed it, but allears is showing 90 days). The 90 day call date for 10/21/09 is 7/23/09.

Oh, I thought that was only temporary until the new reservation system is completely phased in, then they would go back to 180 days. My bad.

Yup, 90 days now, so have LOTS of time to figure it out.
I like some traditions, but also like variety in my restaurant choices. Since group size is a problem, then maybe TWO dinners at the same time would make sense. Those who want to go to Trails End and then one at Whispering Canyons.
We could pretty easily meet up after for any FW activities like a tour. But are the Halloween lights as common place as the Christmas ones? The Territory Lounge at WL is also a nice place to sit and chat and rarely too busy.
There are not many good times for an out of the way resort meal...
Thurs - Leave MK, catch boat to WL, chatting, waiting, eating, chatting, waiting for boat and returning to the MK for the party is a 2.5 to 3 hour hit on park time.
Fri - Epcot is very popular with tons of great food choices right there... Not feasible to break that up with trip to WL
Sat. - Possible with early park close at AK and open evening unless you are doing the ToT run - or willing to go back for that after dinner.
Sun. - Late in the game and many have already headed home. May eat into DHS park time for those that stay there, and there are again good restaurant or counter service choices in the park to reduce travel time loss.

Just a warning there is talk around that Capture the Magic may be at DHS this year- with mostly a new group of hosts- just so you can plan accordingly.

I am all about WC instead of PT - I am a bit of sick of PT food choices for dinner - happen to love PT for lunch. I totally understand it is very hard to get to a resort from a park so unless there is a call for a very late dinner, I guess Wednesday looks like a possiblity and maybe Saturday depending what happens with other meets and ToT race. :cheerleader:A spilt dinner options what a new and different idea.
I know there have been breakfast meets in the past at Trail's End. Might be way to early to Begin at the End Wednesday morning but Begin at the End on Thursday morning? Would more people be there by Thursday morning? Think Wednesday may be a travel day for a lot of people. Just throwing out ideas

The thing about Ft. W is that it takes so dang long to get there. I LOVE WCC and we wouldn't be too loud for it! KETCHUP!!! I think it would have a similar feel as 50s PT....
Orange Slushies!!!!! Oooh, YES PLEASE!

If you're coming from the MK you could take the boat to FW, and skip the buses.
If we're still doing the Dogs and Lights Tour, we'd still have to get to FW after dinner at WL.

I really like the idea of Whispering Canyon- I've never been and so want to go! (I can't think of a better group to be rowdy with.) I don't htink tranportation to either should be a problem- the boats go between. I also like the idea of the Dogs and Lights tour- if there are Halloween dec to see. Maybe the tour could start at 7 or 8 ish the the "split eater" could have time to get back together!

I know I'm not going, but I figure there's no reason why I can't give some of my thoughts.
This might be a silly question, but since Wed is an open day (kind of like it is/was for MF) why not have a Begin at the End meet on Wed. and do WCC before MNSSHP on Thurs.? You might want to do WCC kind of early, like maybe 3:00, but I would think that would work for anyone doing the party.

My opinion on doing a resort dinner on a park day is that you loose MUCH park time. Out of the park. Wait for boat. Ride to WL (many times via FW first). Wait for seating. Eat. Chat. Back to launch area. Wait for Boat. Back to park. Back through security and ticket check.
2.5 to 3 hours MINIMUM. We've stayed at the WL enough to know how long some of those waits and trips are. WAY too much park time lost for me when there is so much choice IN the park itself.
Just my take on the topic.

Yes, Wednesday is always a travel day for me, so all those meets that come early in the day are always out for me.

Just wanted to update that I've made arrangements for a co-host for Soarin'.
Also - I plan to travel in on Wed too, so Wed night is the first time I will have to do a meet. I thought of coming on Tuesday, but I'm staying until Nov 1st, so it's just getting too long and using up too many vacation days. I hope BATE stays in the evening as I've never been able to go.
And where are Orange Slushes? I can't have orange, but just wondering.....
I agree with Dave about trying to do a resort dining on a park day. Just too much time out of the day.
Carol that looks awesome on the Halloween brochure! I would love to see that, but will be on the Wonder for Halloween! LOL Do you think they are ready for the "real" Fairy Godmother?
I am really looking forward to MNSSHP with this group. I never go on rides at that party. I love to go around and find characters all night it is such a hoot to interact with them in my costume. And I love to watch the parade, sometimes both times. I hope there will be others that will do that with me!

I was thinking of this yesterday, as my cousin invited me to have dinner (and find a restaurant) and help her use up her dining points.
Yesterday I drove from my house to Coronado Springs, had a leisurely dinner, drove them back to the AKL and made it home...in 3 hours.

Kathleena, the Orange Slushies are at a kiosk in France. They're like a icee with Grand Marnier instead of orange syrup (more likely, in addition to the syrup, I guess).....

I was poking around in the menus at AllEars to find the name of a dish at the WCC and noticed that the menu has changed since the last time I was there. There is actually nothing on it that I like except the roast chicken, but how boring....... They took away my favorite - the vegetarian dish - and replaced with an enchilada. Anyway, bummer.......
