LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Walt Disney World said it's hiring 2,000 workers for summer jobs, another sign the tourism industry is recovering.
Universal Orlando also is hiring 2,000 workers for its two theme parks and entertainment arena.
The hiring will primarily be for jobs involving customer interaction such as merchandising, concessions and housekeeping.
Disney World brought on a similar number of employees last summer, but at the same time reduced the hours for its maintenance staff due to concerns over the economy and the war in Iraq.
This year, the theme park resort says no cutbacks are planned.
Spokeswoman Rena Langley said Disney World has seen a steady recovery over the past few years. And she said booking trends have been encouraging for the future.
