I'm planning on my very first yard sell in the next few weeks. I am getting rid of all the baby items that we won't need anymore, I hope  . Anywho, was wondering if anybody had any ideas, tips that they could share. What do you typically price childrens clothing items that are in good shape. I have got everything that you would need to start a nursery( crib, changing table, swing, bassinet) those are just a few things. What have you sold your items for? Can you tell I'm stuck on pricing. Thought about having my DD6 sell cookies and lemonade too. Anything I can do to help pay for this trip, I'll do it. Give me your best tips!

Well, I am not an expert on pricing kids clothes, but my garage sale rule-of-thumb is if you want to get rid of it, you will sell cheap.
For pricing, try checking out ebay and see what items are being sold for that are similar to yours.
Also, if you have a lot, you can put into a box and just charge a dollar amount for the whole box (or boxes if you divide them up by age/size).
Good luck!

We have a yearly garage sale (its a neighborhood thing, and coming up in less than 2 weeks!)
We price clothes, etc so they move and typically from 25 cents to say $5.00 for a more expensive outfit or dress. Special cases for the REALLY expensive items. Hanging the clothes up for easy access really helps, and sorting them by size helps too. People get tired of digging in bins, and comparing sizes. Price tags on everything REALLY helps, people hate to have to ask. Clean items sell better than dirty or dusty items. And you can always come down on prices, but can't go up.
A newspaper ad and signs near your house (or main street) can really help. Newspapers bring out the planners (baby items seem ESPECIALLY popular. List large items like crib, etc, right in the ad) And put some of the baby items on your signs as well. Those pull in the 'drive bys'. If its a warm day, we find that cans of soda and/or bottles of water sell really well (we keep a cooler full near the garage) And even one of those big boxes of kids candy sell pretty good to moms trying to pacify the kids they bring along. (I always tell my wife to get the ring pops because they look and act like the pacifiers they are!) ;)
Can you tell we've done this before? Good luck! We always bring in a few hundred that we put away for Disney!

Haha! We do the same thing, Dave :D Cold sodas and those little bags of chips - we make more $$ on that stuff on a hot day
As far as baby items - anything outside of clothes I find better to sell elsewhere. We had mint condition baby furniture, etc and people didn't want to pay more than $5. for ANYTHING! We ended up selling some pieces through DH's work - they have an employee posting board for selling/trading items. The prices we got we closer to eBay type prices, and I am glad I held out. Ask around if anyone in your family's work does this type of thing. You will definitely get more $$ to put toward vacation 8)

If youhave a store that sells hotdogs and buns for cheap I'd light the BBQ grill and cook some of those starting about 10:30-11:00 until they're gone- The smell of the grill will make them hungry. We made more in food at our garage sale last year than any single family unit did. (my GS troop had a sale to help with their Disney expenses.)

It depends on what kind of neighborhood u are in if baby stuff sells or not. in my moms it does not but in my best friends it goes like hot cakes and at very good prices..
old stuffed animals and toys kids have out grown go well also. old games and puzzles . we are even gonna try to put out some vhs tapes (barney and such )
If you have any other questions don't hesitate..

I make my signs out of neon tagboard shaped like a pointing hand. It seems to get attention. (One year I made one shaped like the whole hand, it said, "Whoa, you went too far, turn around, go back 1 block")
Anyway, we stapled it to a phone pole the night before. Well, it rained a little, causing all the other "fingers" to droop EXCEPT for the middle finger! Need;ess to say, it got noticed!
It takes a lot of time, but I have found that if I wash the clothes and
hang them on a hanger, (ironing too if needed) will fetch big bucks.
Run a bar or dowel across your garage to hang the clothes up on.
I set up long banquet tables (if you don't have these handy, saw horses and plywood works great) put a sheet on the table and then place similiar items together.
Wash any toys and put them in a "can't miss place" if you want them to sell.
The grill and the cooler also produce decent money.
My kids were charging $2.50 for a hotdog, bag of chips and a can of soda.
They had quite a line going!

Thanks for all the tips. I'm really getting excited about getting rid of everything. I think I'm more excited about getting the attic cleaned out than making any money, but that doesn't hurt  I have already ebayed a lot of the girls good clothes but wanted to try to sell the heavier items first before going the ebay route.
