This morning the Space Mountain cast got word from our Area Manager that the Mountain is definitely going down in mid-April. Only information I know for sure is that loading gates will be added to the load docks. I'll let yall know if I hear more.

Thanks for the heads up Zac. Any word on how long the rehab will take? My bet is that it'll still be down when we're there the end of August.

Dang! I know it needs the rehab, but that means it will probably be down when we are there in the May-June timeframe...
Any word on where they are going to have you working in the interim Zac?

I am still trained at the Stitch Complex (Stitch/Astro/TTA), so I will probably be there all summer, but I'm trying to keep my nose clean so I can bid for a Coordinator spot this April. That or get trained at the Buzz Complex (Buzz/Monsters/COP)

As for length of time, the goal is to have it back up for the holiday season. I was discussing this with the Space cast, I heard most changes will be cosmetic, the queue will be redesigned. (Yay!) They would really like to enclose the load area for a darker feel, but there isn't time for that.

Holidays huh? There's a holiday in Sept-think they'll make that one--just kidding of course but we're heading down in mid-sept--hope its done since you don't think the rehab is too extensive.
thanks for the info

A shout out to the "ever-excellent Web site allears.net" from a blogger on the Sentinel's Theme Park Ranger for reporting on the Space Mountain story.

In April, no go for launch for Space Mountain

The ever-excellent Web site allears.net is reporting that Space Mountain most likely will be closed (http://allears.net/tp/rehabs.htm#april) in April for refurbishing. The big-bummer peg to this report is that it could be out of commission for most of the year. And I was hoping my preschooler would be ready to ride it this summer (she loves roller coasters). Now she'll have to wait a little longer, along with the rest of us. [Insert frowny face here, along with a sigh of resignation.]

We will be there in Mid-March so 1 more ride on SM before it goes down.

Hope you get the position you want Zak! And thanks for the info!

I have always wanted to ride this but Dh will not go and I won't go alone. Do they have an area to view the ride where you don't have to get on but can see the design of it? (like mission space etc.).

You can't really see the ride itself but you can go through the line or ride TTA to see the spaceships you would be riding in. If you're on TTA when the ride goes down and the lights come on you can see the track.

Oh man.....my son will be sooooo bummed out - this is one of his favorites.

Guess we have one more reason to go back in 2010!

Man, that stinks. But it really does need a touch up. Thanks for the heads up Zak! Oh, and good luck on getting the training! ;)
