I am starting to dabble in digital scrapbooking. This is a page I played around with. Just playing, practicing, and trying to figure it all out. I used some freebie papers I downloaded. This was done in Photoshop CS2

Any tips and help from other digi scrappers is most welcome!

What great pictures! Just the kind you want to have for your scrapbook pages (she says, jealously).

It's a great start for a page! I have one digital technique suggestion and one layout suggestion, since you asked. :)

The digital technique suggestion is to apply a slight drop shadow to everything except the background layer. That's one of the layer styles you can add with the fx button at the bottom of your layers palette. I think you'll be very pleased with the amount of interest even a slight, light drop shadow gives the layout.

My layout suggestion is to separate your text block into two parts. Make the letters in "Merry Christmas Baby" bigger and leave it at the top as your title. Move the rest of the text below the big picture, on another, smaller green rectangle. This will give your layout a better path for the eye to take as they look around the page.

Thank you everyone for the compliments!

Thanks MissB for the compliment and the suggestions. They are greatly appreciated! I will play around with the drop shadows and how I have the text layout. Thanks!

Melanie, that is a gorgeous page. Ofcourse, you have a pretty cool subject with whom you're working..

BTW, Miss B and some others here have a wealth of digital knowledge for scrapbooking.. How much time do you have.??.

Love it, Melanie! I want to do that when I can finally get a new computer.

Definitely check with April - EgExperiment626 - here on the boards. She just lauched her own site, www.scrappingthemagic.com (http://www.scrappingthemagic.com) before Mousefest. She was at Mousefest, too. When you get there, Sandy Mc Gowan, who I met at Magic Meets, is a digital scrapper. Tell her the "other" Sandy, whom she sat with at April's workshop, highly recommends her. ;)

Love it! What a great first attempt! (and what a beautiful subject). I like Miss B's suggestion on the title, that will really make a nice finishing touch!

Miss Bianca, Chris, Melanie and anyone else who knows more than I do...that should be a lot of you! ;)

Well, it looks as if I am almost ready to finally get my laptop that I have been saving for and it will probably be my desktop replacement. So here is my question. I would like to try digital scrapbooking after I get it, so are there any things I need to make sure I have on my computer? Right now it looks as if I am looking at a lot of notebooks that are 4G and 320 GB Hard Drives. Will that do? Or should I think desktop? I am assuming the processor won't really matter for scrapping. Any certain graphics cards? And then software ideas?

The processor matters a lot for scrapping because you are using big files, usually. But 4G is 3 more than I have so you have plenty!

You will need to get some software for digi scrapping. Photoshop Elements is what I use. I have 4.0 on my laptop and 6.0 on my desktop, but about to upgrade that 4.0 to 6.0 also so they will be the same.

And you should be sure you have a process for doing back ups so you have your creations stored someplace other than your main hard drive. They will take up a LOT of space so you might need redundant external hard drives just in case you need to move them off your regular hard drive.

You should get a nice, comfortable, wireless laptop mouse so it is easy to travel.

And you might think about a docking station too if you get the laptop. I just got mine and love it, I don't have to unbuckle all those peripherals anymore, just one plug and I'm gone!

May be back with more later.............

The new laptop is due to come home from the store today!:minnie: I will probably go with Photoshop Elements since a couple poeple have recommended that to me. Mouse is already here. Have a portable hard drive - would that work? I hadn't thought of the docking station but that is a great idea.

I'll let you know and see what transpires...when I have the time to play with my new toy. ;)

I know that I haven't made it a secret that I am a Creative Memories rep, so there is a bias there, but I really think that people should check out the Storybook Creator Plus software that we have. It is really cool, and you can use it with other content that you may find. It was voted as the reader's choice in CK mag, and I know that we didn't pad the votes!

If you want to see the examples, they are on my facebook page, Sandy.

I will check out the examples. With the new laptop and school (took the day off today for a mental health day ;)) I may take a couple of weeks to decide on software since I will be spending time learning the new computer. Thanks for the advice from the Longaberger lady to the Creative Memories lady!;)

:( Looks as if I will not become a digital scrapbooker any time soon. Apparently software has not caught up to the newer computers, as in Vista 64. So, in the meantime, I guess that I will use my paper supplies - which are numerous!;)

My new computer has Vista, and I don't have any problems. In fact, I really like Vista now that I understand how to use it. Is there something someone here can help you with?
