Some keepers out of the last firing. We had a new blue glaze at the Crafts Center I was playing with.

Claire actually that's an old Folkware form and you hit the nose on the head. Scaring people is exactly what it's supposed to do. In the early 1800's when they first started appearing most people couldn't read. So they were done to keep people out of poisons or family members & servants out of things like Liquor and other valubles. A lot of the time I make pieces like this into lamps or make jar versions that I fill with candy and give as gifts. They make nice conversation pieces if you display them on your home bar or fireplace guardians. You could also use them as coin banks.

great pieces Andy

I absolutely adore the blue turtle shell!!! Love it to bits!!!

I'd be afraid to have an ugly jar - I'd have to turn it around to face the wall at night or better yet - stick it in the closet :yowsa:

I most certainly do, Andy. My friend's ugly face vase was dark brown or blue--probably due to the age of the vase and it made the white eyes stand out even more and I love quirky things.

Two vases would be perfect and I have just the place for them. I'm more than willing to pay for materials and the shipping.

No problem Janie. I'll plan on making two face jugs for you. BTW I have a lamp ready now if you want it.

How big is the lamp? I think my boys would love an ugly face lamp for their room.

Approx 15 inches high without the shade Janie. I'm used this body for it
