Beignets 6b

It’s 6:30 p.m. – mini meet at Drago’s Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar out in Metaire in 30 minutes and we are upstairs in our room – throwing clothes everywhere – brushing teeth – makeup here and there – back downstairs, grabbed three drinks and had the doorman grab us a taxi. After our last taxi experience we were pleasantly pleased with the one we were now riding in. We told our new driver our horror story of an hour before, he said he agreed with all of it and felt he needed to apologize – we wouldn’t hear of it – it wasn’t his fault at all – he laughed and joked about how direct he would drive us – wouldn’t even turn the cab to the left or right – not even an inch – direct all the way to Drago’s – he was a bit surprised we knew of the restaurant – we told him how Rosie lived there and she suggested it – the taxi driver told us it was pretty good and he drops off many customers there. Stepping out of the taxi van – he gave us his number so we could call him when we were ready to head back into town – we mentioned we might need it and thanked him for such a pleasant tranquil ride.

Walking through the parking lot up to the door, I heard “Lady” and saw two couples smiling at me – I had worn my Tigger Ears from WDW so our new friends would recognize me – it was Diane and her husband and Diane’s sister – Janet and her husband John – it was John’s birthday – what a cool way to celebrate it meeting new friends!! I went inside and inquired if Rosie had arrived as yet – she had not – went back outside and the seven of us were talking – getting to know each other a little – Debby (Happy Camper) arrived with her husband and her precious darling granddaughter. Within another couple of minutes – Rosie and her son Matthew arrived – we all went in and were seated at a long table – this prevented those on one end speaking with those on the other end but what are you going to do? Rosie suggested the charbroiled oysters and Tramp ordered a plate of them – he said they were wonderful – so very good!!! I had a cup of Crab Bisque and Hot Crab Dip – again I was in heaven – just put crab on a string and dangle it – I’ll do flips I swear lol – the main entrees were brought out, Tramp had the GRILLED SHRIMP PASTA - Fresh Gulf shrimp, lightly seasoned and grilled with angel hair pasta and Creole sauce. Garnished with fresh parmesan and romano cheese. Scamp had the LOBSTER MARCO A whole lobster stuffed with fresh sautéed shrimp and mushrooms, in a delicate cream sauce over angel hair pasta. Rosie’s son Matthew also ordered this and the two guys sat next to each other cracking their lobster and having a nice time talking young guy stuff – I ordered the SEAFOOD PASTA Shrimp and crabmeat cooked in a delicate cream sauce with angel hair pasta and sprinkled with fresh parmesan and romano cheese.

The dinner was very enjoyable – we were all talking, laughing, taking photos of each other and I am now just reminded as I type this that we did not take a group photo!! Ackkk!

Rosie had ordered a cake from a Vietnamese Bakery for the Birthday People – Debby and John and it was brought out with candles – we sang Happy Birthday to Debby and John – what a scrumptious cake it was – OMG – this has been added to our next visit – buy cake – go to bakeries – go to pastry shops – have baked goods – skip a day of restaurants and just eat cake!! It was beyond Yummmy!! All to soon it was time to give out hugs and say our goodbyes – I gave Debby a hug and stated I wish we had had more time to talk together – these mini dinner meets are fine – they surely are – but the time we spent with Donna and Jimmy our second day – is the way to go – we went somewhere quiet where we could just talk to each other and had spent more than two hours together. The dinner meets just go by too fast – I’m sorry I did not get to talk more with some of our new friends - Janet and John gave us a ride back into town since they lived that way and Tramp took a photo of Janet and me outside the hotel – we really enjoyed our travel back with them – although it was short – we laughed all the way back to the hotel – they are wonderful – so friendly!

We drifted off to sleep again pleasantly stuffed – most assuredly a pattern has developed – wake up – eat all day – go to sleep - tomorrow our last day, for awhile to visit this great city - was going to be busy – packed with stuff to see and enjoy!

Am I EVER going to learn to not read your trip reports while I am hungry? It sounds like such a great time-and meeting friends is always nice.

I'm saving your next one until AFTER I eat breakfast.

Dearest ((Lady)):

It was my loss that the table was so darn long and we were at opposite ends!!

Yes, dinner meets are good and here in south La. every meet is planned around food. However, in this instance, we would have been better off without the long table.

It was great to meet you, your family, and Diane. Maybe we'll get another chance to do more than a quick hug.
