OK - who has received their DVC Member ID and PIN mailings? I just got my PIN today, so I'm all ready to check out the site on Tuesday! It will be interesting to see what new features the site now has.

I went to the DVC member update on Thursday at BWV and the main new feature so far is basically just the individualized IDs and PINs. The website update is planned to be rolled out in stages and they are only on stage one. The goodies come in stage 2 apparently. In about 18 months they hope to have more interactive features such as banking/borrowing, point availability, etc.

I haven't gotten anything from them lately! Maybe they read these boards and heard that I was about to sell and they want to save the postage, lol.

We got both of ours yesterday, as well as the new Mickey Monitor. I have a question though. It says to use this pin along with the personal Vacation Club ID sent earlier. What is the vacation club ID? I hope I didn't throw them away. :( I threw several things away when they kept advertising to buy now before the price went up.

There were 2 sets of mailings...the first was the personal ID for each person listed as an owner on your DVC deed. These were postcards sent inside envelopes. The second mailing contained the PIN number and once again these were sent to each person listed as an owner.

We got one mailing on Thursday (with the ID) and one on Saturday (with the PIN). The one with the ID looked like this on the front:

Ours arrived last week. I'm ready! Well, I'm impatient is closer to the truth. I hope it's not all frills and no substances to the new web site.

I'm thinking the same thing Sandy. I have a feeling the initial rollout will be mainly reworking the existing content, and some enhanced planning tools. I think the online booking/banking/lookup features will be added down the road. But its nice that they are setting things up to move forward and provide some serious features in the future. Bullets from the mailing said:

Enhanced vacation planning tools
New Virtual tours of all the Disney Vacation Club Resorts
Member Friendly navigation
Community Features including Member polls and insider tips
A magical vacation countdown tool.

Gee - its sounds like my site! I've been replaced!

We got ours too - you should send them that little comparison chart you made up for all the resorts! I've used it 4 times already!

I'm looking forward to the new site too!

Yeah, we got ours too. I got the first one about 2 weeks ago and I got the PIN number one this weekend. I will checking it out first thing tommorow morning

Pammy, you own DVC??? Don't you live only 5 minutes from the Epcot parking lot??

Dennis...sometimes you scare me, lol...
And yes, I do own DVC...but I bought when I lived in NC, never dreaming that I would be moving to central FL just a few months later. And now my new apt is sooo close. But no plans to sell at this point - after all, there are lots of non-WDW ways to use my points.

OK - tried out the new site, and for the most part it looks like the same content, reformated to follow Disney's new website look and feel. Very Pretty, but I look forward to a time when they add some truly useful tools for accessing our account info - like checking reservations, making reservations, banking, borrowing, changing requests, etc. Sigh... Looks like tools of this sort won't be available until late 2005. Being a programmer, I KNOW it doesn't take that long to add the simple stuff - like letting people see reservations, point balances, etc. Even that would be nice...

No fair! I wanted to get out there first, but had to be to work really early this morning. I agree with you that it would be good to have some of the interactive account information available, and it would not take that much work to tap into the databases and make them available. Hopefully soon.

And I found two bugs so far! ;) Ahhh, the life of a webmaster for a huge company!

When I tried to display the map of the BCV I got HHI instead. So I sent a note, and found a bug in the contacts page! :)

As to content, I'll keep my tours online. ;) Disney just doesn't include enough detail for my taste! I wanna see EVERYTHING! :D And I still like my point calculator better... :)

I wanna work for DVC and add some serious bells and whistles to all the pretty fluff! :)

OK, it has possibilities. I have let my mind run with the possibilities as they have gone to the trouble of creating unique IDs and passwords for every member. This is no trivial effort if they don't have some fairly complex activities in mind. For some reason they not only want to know which contract is logging in, but which person on the contract is there. I think it will be interesting to see how the site evolves.

Very true Joe. I think they have plans, but we are an impatient bunch, and while its NICE to have them welcome us by family name when we log in, I was hoping for at least SOME other personal DVC related info.

Something as simple as current points remaining - or when your use year banking dates are. It should also be straight forward to list a members upcoming reservations. And these things would save MANY calls to member services. Waiting another year and a half is a bit much from this programmers point of view.

Oh Tag, I'm right behind you. I just figured that all our DVC info is currently kept on an obsolete computer system's database. They can't access even the most elementary pieces of information and will need to create all new software and database before we see any type of substance. I would rather see them introduce stages of information, fix those bugs and then move to the next implementation. Actuate and safe transfer of information is better than bells and whistles with stolen ID, lost points or lost reservations. I would hope to see a robust system in about a year and a half.

Do you think if we voluntered to do the background work, they would hire us? I'll do the database design and structure and get it to interface to your front end....... :creator:

Deal! Databases are evil! Not as evil as they used to be, but still...

Joe

No Tagrel, databases not evil; databases good!!! Hey, working with them got me my Doctorate....

Tagrel

LOL, they were when I first starting working with them! Now, they are only periodically psychotic!

Joe

But Tag, that's what made them so much fun to work with! Where's the challenge in writing code that, once you get it running, is always predictable? With a big enough database, it takes on a personality of it's own

At least I don't have to write the Clipper overlays to get databases to do things I want them to anymore.
