Should we go to the dollar store - buy a couple, include them (deflated of course) in our suitcases, use them and toss them? Or should we just rent them on the island??

We are bringing our own snorkeling gear (since we already own it).

I would go the dollar store route. We rented on Castaway Cay, and we really didnt use them enough to justify the cost.

As long as you dont mind blowing them up!

There are also these really cool floats from Swimways that are netted and you just blow up the outer rim and pillow. They let you float directly in the water. The flip together and store in a mesh carry bag easily. They travel well. I flew mine to and from Vegas! It just layed on bottom of everything else or could even go on top because they are so flat and deflate very easily.

Briar - do you know the name of it? I am looking for it on the Swimways site and it would be great to have an idea what I am looking for,

Thanks

Dr. D. I think it is called a spring float. They are mesh with black outer edges. They are available at Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target etc! If you can't find one let me know and I'll see if I can find a picture. We have three of them and love em.

We have this float and highly recommend it. Although, the first one we had, I had a problem with folding it ( think it was faulty), but the store replaced it. Its awesome to be floating and be able to feel the water on you. Good deal for the walmart price, I paid about 12 dollars more at a pool place 3 years ago.

I found a two pack of this style float at Sam's Club last night. It was $35 for two that were 76" long instead of 72" long... Better for us taller people! :)

Yup that's them! Love those things! Just like floating on a cloud! Still feel the coolness of the water with the warm sunshine! I'm thinking I need to head to Sam's! We have three of them in our pool and when we have guests we argue over who gets to use them versus the "blowup" things that you stick too!

Happy floating everyone.

I saw these in Walgreen's tonight, 17.96 for the 66" long version. Not nearly as long as tall people need. Sam's Club seems to be the best buy so far. It came in a net bag you could carry on your shoulder or pack flat in a very large suitcase. I wonder how it would fare checked on its own. It certainly looked comfortable.

The outside of the package says one flick of the wrist opens it. With further reading, you do have to inflate it yourself. It doesn't automatically inflate. If I didn't have three sets of sand toys and decorated martini glasses in that luggage, I might be able to get one in.

Are they basically for the OCEAN? I mean,is there a tide?Could you float out into open see if you're not observant or what?
I was going to ask if they could be used in the pools-but then again,I know the pools would be way too crowded for such devices!

Minderella I was planning on using them at the adult beach at Castaway Cay - which by defn has an ocean next to it -- I doubt that a current exists that would pull me out to open water where I could not get back - if so, Disney would not have picked this site.
