Being that almost a week of October is over - may I suggest we start the October Photo Assignment?

The theme is Autumn : )

While I like Halloween, I think it's very specific. I would prefer somethng more generic such as autumn. While most peoples first thoughts of autumn might be the color change of leaves there's a lot more to it than that.

Halloween occurs in autumn so it would qualify. I just didn't want to be limited by something that occurs only one day during the month when there's a lot of things that happen during this month.

Autumn it is! Shell - would you edit your title to include " - Autumn" at the end and we can just use this thread for the photos.

ohhh my goodness- where about is this in the Hudson Valley? I grew up right outside Hudson NY :oops: Kinderhook area. I haven't been back home in 15 years. Hubby won't go north for vacations, only south to Disney! :neer:

That's the Mid-Hudson Bridge, which connects Poughkeepsie with Highland. I took that shot from the top of the parking garage at the Poughkeepsie train station.

I've heard of Kinderhook, I remember driving by it on my way back and forth to college in the Capital District. Tell Hubby that now is the best time to visit - no snow yet, and the spectacular Fall foliage will soon be at its peak!

Okay...this isn't really a hunting lodge but a restaurant which looked like one. :) October starts the hunting season for deer in New York. First bow and mussel loaders followed by rifles next month.

BTW, I handheld this using a technique I wrote about on the Picture This! blog last week on Advanced Camera Holding (http://land.allears.net/blogs/photoblog/2008/10/advanced_camera_holding.html).

Both photos are from Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The one above is from the chapel which sits behind the Crescent Hotel.

The cool thing about these assignments is that I always have it in my head that I need to post something so it's gets me out, no matter how busy of a month it is - and this was a busy one for sure.

I don't have many. Really, the colors here in the city (where there are lots of ornamentals) are just now at their peak. Outside of town things are just starting to turn.

In my backyard I have an Asian Pear tree. It was the prettiest I've ever seen it this year. This one was right after the first frost.

anybody know what this tree is - I did a search and it could be a purple plum tree but haven't seen any plums unless it is one of those names that says one thing (plums) but isn't really true :blink: They look very pretty from the window - at a distance it looks like a large Lilac Bush :) (edited to add - I did a further google search and came up with ... Sweetgum tree - their leaves look like these (but the site doesn't show purple???) We have a good 100 or so wild trees where we are - and bushes and such - it would be interesting to identify them all and see just what is growing on our property :)

I'm having trouble with macro setting on my new camera. It's a bit more advanced than my old one and even though it is point and shoot, it's not quite as user friendly as the last one. I hope to go out today and take more practice shots.

Pepper is my 10 year-old Scoodle (Scotty/Poodle). He's a retired therapy dog and loves nothing more than fetch!

This has been a particularly busy Tagrel photo assignment, and I wanted to say thanks to everyone for posting such great photos! This is my favorite time of year. Unfortunately, I didn't get out to enjoy it as much as I would have liked. Seeing all of the wonderful Autumn moments that you captured certainly made up for that!

Thanks, guys! It's a Sony Cybershot, DSC-H3 (I think it's already an "old model" in that I got mine second hand on Ebay but you can only get new ones here and there). It is a newer and fancier version of the cybershot I already had. It is relatively small, but not one of those little flat ones. It is a 10x zoom and a 8.1 mp. I watched and bid on ebay for nearly 6 months waiting to snag one at a decent price. I got it for $150! The new ones on there run between $230 and $350. I LOVE the camera. I'm starting to play with the manual settings now.....

The pics were from a park about 15 minutes from my home. One thing we have in Minnesota---LOTS of lakes!!! LOL....
