View Full Version : Any fabric junkies out there?

I'm thinking ahead to Christmas...

My daughter fancies herself a Vera Bradley type bag. Mama won't pay the price and so far she won't either, add shipping to Canada to the already expensive price and it is silly.

I had the thought of making her a bag myself and would love to go with the theme of her favourite TV show-Pushing Daisies. Has anyone ever seen fabric with daisies in a garden cart of wheelbarrow? Also fabric with olives, her favourite character on the show? It would make a great lining! The two quilt shops in town here couldn't recall ever seeing any such thing, though one lady that was shopping thought she had seen olive fabric before...

So, if anyone is out cruising for more fabric, would you mind letting me know if you see such things and note the manufacturer?
Thanks

They are having a great Vera outlet sale right now. Things go very cheap. I have seen some great "knock-offs" though. I love the mickey head bags at Disney.

Sadly the Vera site does not ship to Canada, though I could have it shipped to a place over the river and go pick it up. Still a lot of money even at half price!!!

I did pick up one of those types of purses in Disney-pink with some hidden Mickeys on it-but I would never have paid $38...it was on sale for $12!!

I have found some fabric on ebay-not quite what I was looking for, but doable.

I picked up a GREAT purse pattern for a Vera Bradley knock off. Simple. Let me know if you would like the pattern.

I haven't seen any of the material like you described. I did make luvsPiglet a makeup bag and a tote out of some double sided quilted material with matching fabric to do the lining. Came out very Vera Bradley like.

I did a search for that kind of fabric, and not a whole lot came up. You could also use a Daisy/wheelbarel applique.

This is not quite what you were looking for but.. I did find this however. I think it is cute. I would love to have a purse made of these contrasting colors. It is called the Daisy Chain Kaleidoscope dots olive. With the Olive colored fabric for the liner.

Is it a Simplicity (or such) pattern? if so, I could likely find it here. I figured I woud just "wing it" anyhow-but never thought to take the guesswork out by using a pattern! Sadly, our only fabric store (besides the quilting shops) has a very limited selection of quilted fabrics, which is surprising since the bags are so popular now! There were several I could have chosen, I was just trying to see if I could do the "theme". Fabric with olives all over it would be absolulely adorable...but I don't have a factory!

Daisee, I did see that fabric and love it. So woud dd, I was just thinking fo the theme. When you say applique, what exactly did you mean-an iron on design I do on the computer? or actual quilting applique (I can do that too, and have considered that possibility, though olives woud be a royal pain!)

It is not a Simplicity pattern. It is a pattern by a local company. I really liked the pattern. I will check the name of the company and get back to you. Hopefully they have a website, or I will be happy to mail it to you.

I was thinking something like this.. that you could Iron or sew in place.

Daisee, those are perfect! I imagine I can find the daisies here as Wright's is pretty popular...I sure hope I can find the olives as the fabric search is yielding no olives!

I have found a fabric with a garden cart with flowers, not daisies but those appliques woud be perfect. I've also found fabric with pies...just extending the theme from the show! Hopefully the colours will tie together, so far both backgrounds are black...

The pattern is from "All My Bags & Quilts Too!" which is a local company.
The pattern I have is "Uptown Girl #141" designed by Christine Lockhart.

Yes, I am a fabric junkie! LOL By the way, I love Pushing Daisies too. I'm so happy it's back on.

Susan, have you considered making a fabric applique of your own? You could use the appliques Daisee linked to as the pattern and make your own with wonder under and machine applique it to the purse backing fabric.

I've amassed quite a few purse and tote patterns to make as gifts this Christmas. I'll have to pull them out of my cupboard to see which ones I have. I am also thinking of making some reuseable oilcloth shopping/grocery bags as gifts. Guess I should get busy on those.

Daisee, I love that "daisy chain....." print. It's very retro!
