UPDATE: see at end of post:

I added three more pieces to my one piece of Polish Pottery last week. This is a salad bowl about 3-4" high and fluted on the outside:

This is the inside of the same bowl:

These are two dinner plates (you get two with different designs):

Beautiful pieces Claire. Certainly worthwhile for a collection display. Plan to lead test them in case you want to eat from them?

Thanks for the compliment Lady but I DO NOT MAKE THESE OR ANYTHING LIKE THESE!!! This is Polish Stoneware that comes directly from Poland. They are sold on TV and locally in one shop that I know of. They are hand painted and all are done by a handful of painters in Poland. First they make a design and then make a sponge from that for each part of the design. They then sponge some of the design and hand paint the details. They are fired and glazed and can be used on the table, in the oven, microwave and dishwasher or just be displayed. The colors are very vibrant and I love the blues and greens for my house. They are quite collectible and can fetch a good amount if you want to sell them. They are numbered and have a stamp of authenticity - they are limited editions and you get a dvd of the painting being done and the town they are made in. Very interesting.

Claire since I do pottery as a hobby I can tell you these pieces take a LOT of time and patience to decorate. I agree with you they're great collectibles. Enjoy them. They're certainly some of the nicest pottey I've seen in a while.

I wish I had the space to collect something like this. They'd look great in a china cabinet.

Those are beautiful Claire! Are you going to hang them on the wall for display?

Since I'm of Polish descent, I feel that I can be rightfully proud of these pieces (even though I didn't have a hand in making them). They're lovely!

We have new pics on the wall of the dining room already Robin so I think we may just USE them. They go from freezer to oven to table and have a heavy glaze on them. Most people who have them say they do not scratch or knick etc.

I'm bidding on this one last plate tonight. I think there are two hours left in bidding and I have high bid for now. Not sure if I'll be awake to bid higher and don't want to raise my maximum bid anymore.

I wouldn't eat on them, they are too pretty! As someone else mentioned, make sure they don't have lead. Many decorative pieces do.

Do you have a hallway, or open staircase?

Wow, they are safe to use. I cheated an Googled the mark on the bottom of the plate.

Our Boleslawiec pottery products are "Quality 1" (highest quality), lead-free, microwave, oven, freezer, and dishwasher-safe. Our heirloom-quality stoneware is chip-resistant and easy to clean!

Claire I hope you have the winning bid. That is really a beautiful piece of pottery. It'd be great in any collection.

Didn't win. Fell asleep in front of TV and just came in to check computer. She outbid me by 50 cents. It was someone who was not bidding at all until the last minute. I was going to put another bid in then but was not awake!!! I think there are more like that on Ebay.
Oh well, I have to sleep sometime and that was it!!!

Yes, Robin, you can eat off them as you found out. I've talked to people who own them. In fact there is a store in a tiny town near Gettysburg that is supposed to sell Polish Pottery out of the basement below a bookstore.
They have an annual sale but I've never been there. Their regular prices were very very high. Just found out about them a month ago.

Well, I'll try one more dinner plate and hope the final bid is allowed in earlier in the day while I'm still awake!!!

Very nice, Claire. try making your highest bid your real highest bid and you won't have to stay awake. they only go up by like .50 at a time so they do not uses your high unless they have to..Then if someone tries to jump in at athe last minute, you have it blocked... Good luck and enjoy your collection.:)

I bought this sandwich/dessert plate this morning. I used the "buy now" choice instead of bidding and making the price go up. I'd like to get one of each design.

I am now bidding on a set of four dinner plates which are selling for the price of ONE dinner plate on QVC. Not sure how high they will go before bidding ends.

Did you win this new bid Claire. Great looking plates BTW. They'll look good in your collection if you're the winner.

Morning Andy,

I have about 14 hours left to end of bid on the four dinner plates. I have notes all over house and told DH to wake me up if I fall asleep in front of TV. Got to be ready to jump in at the last few minutes to up my bid and/or highest bid to win the plates. Been watching this one lady who does not bid at all during the whole process and then zooms in at the last minute and puts in a bid for 50 cents more than anyone else. Some of the bids end so late at night!!! Now if they ended at 2-3 in the morning I'd be wide awake.

Now a set of two dinner plates for Polish Pottery go for $103 on QVC which is much better than a store price. These four plates are now up to $76 which comes to
$19 each (then there's shipping) so it's still TONS lower than buying on QVC which always has great prices compared to stores. I have a high bid down and don't want to change it just yet. I might be paying more than I have to. If I get the four plates, added to my two that I have, and one on it's way that I won last week, I'll have seven dinner plates and one sandwich plate on it's way.
I think I can have eight dinner plates and sandwich/salad plates by next Easter or Christmas. I have one serving bowl (salad) and one basket for rolls. Will work on salt and pepper shakers, cream and sugar and some mugs.
Then I can get one item per year - soup bowls or more serving pieces. They are something I can always sell on EBay after seeing how fast they go - IF I WANTED TO SELL THEM! Would like to have somethng to pass on to DD or DIL. I really don't have any good china or crystal or sterling silver flatware to pass on and really don't want to start buying those items at this point. We have decent glasses and very good everyday stainless steel that look just fine on the table.

Next year I will look for Christmas dishes. The ones I use cost me $4 for service for four at a dollar store that was going out of business. I bought two sets and have had them for seven years. Came with s/p, sugar and creamer also.

Will keep you posted about the nasty lady trying to steal my dishes. I have to wait until 11:02 p.m. for bidding to be over.

Forgot to say I won the four plates!!!!! Now I have seven dinner plates and two dessert plates. Hoping to add to the set in 2009 with 6 more dessert plates, 8 mugs, salt and pepper and sugar and creamer set. Then I'll have enough to serve a whole meal.

Isn't it nice to have as rewarding a hobby as this Claire. Not only do you have the challange of the "hunt" for the collection but in the end you get to use and enjoy the pottery. Planning on getting any extra pieces for spares, for trading or gifts?

Cinderella
10-28-2008, 10:55 PM
No! Not right now anyhow. Think I'll be broke by next year so I'll be happy with the pieces I get for myself. BUT, if I see something great at a great price and the credit card bill is low............maybe.
