Just got back from the world last night and heard a rumor from two cast members that Disney is going to allow some million dollar + homes to be built around the lake at Magic Kingdom. Anyone know anything about that?

One of those highly unlikely rumors...

First, those would be MANY MANY million dollar homes. ;) And second, Disney does not allow people to live permanently anywhere on Disney property because of certain tax laws that would greatly affect how they control things through the Reedy Creek company. At least, that is what I have heard and read....

Now, Disney owned, rental properties I could see them doing in areas that can't support a resort. That is certainly prime real estate that could be making them more bucks....

I was disappointed about that when I heard it because I think it would take away from Magic Kingdom. Glad to hear from a reliable source that that particular rumor is more than likely untrue.

Thanks.

I never heard the rumor says the homes would be around Seven Seas Lagoon. IF they did do this, I would expect it to be a secure enclave away from the high traffic part of WDW.

I think they rumor grew from the building plans of the Four Seasons resort, which will include "single- and multi-family vacation homes".

On a side note, there is a family that never sold their land to Disney and lives within the borders of RCID. There are also two trailer communities, which I believe are about 55 people. I don't know if they are long term residents or not.

ETA: I posted the Disney press release on the Four Seasons resort here (http://tagrel.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26735).
