View Full Version : July Photo Assignment - Patriotic

Jennifer was the first with an idea, something patriotic, so I'm going to go with that.

Now, I don't tend to be a flag-waving, red-white-and-blue kind of person (and I mean no offense to those who are) so I wasn't so sure about this topic at first. I think that's what makes it a good assignment though. It's good to be challenged.

I started by googling a definition of "patriotic" and the first thing that came up was "inspired by love for your country". That's a pretty broad definition that I think will work well for this month's assignment. So, let's see some photos that are inspired by your love of your country. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's interpretations!

Both Franklin and Eleanor are buried in this garden. Keeping them company is a scottish terrier named Fala, FDR's favorite pet. Fala is buried under the sundial.

This home, along with a number of other sites (such as the Vanderbilt Mansion) is a huge source of pride for the residents of historic Hyde Park (http://www.historichydepark.org/).

In honor of the Major League Baseball All Star Game being played at Yankee Stadium MLB has placed these statues for each team all over NYC. I've found 2 so far.

I'm not sure why but you'll note this is a Brooklyn Dodger Liberty. It may be in tribute to NYC and this being the last Allstar game that will ever be played at the current Yankee Stadium.

Any chance there will be a Boston Red Sox statue ;)

Twinklebunnytoes,

If I were to come across the Saux Liberty I'd have no problem shooting (photographically speaking ;)) her, so there's no need to run. I'm a Mets fan and my memories of Mets / Red Sox is all good...can you say Bill Buckner.

But even if I were a Yankee fan I think 26 World Series wins trumps 2. When the Saux catch up (don't hold your breath waiting) to that then there might be reason to run.

How does this show patriotism? That's easy. In addition to the feeling of freedom riding gives you this machine is American made. BTW it's not mine.

These two photos were entered into a photo contest and did not win :( but were given Honorable Mention and were displayed during this past month in the State Capitol - in a couple of days they will be taken down and added to the State's Archives :) The Militiaman is also the same person in the photo before this - the subjects in the photos are friends - our family also reenacts - Civil War and WWII - we tried the Rev War but prefer the other two eras better.

These two photos as the one before this were taken with an Argus C-3 1938 - as a WWII War Correspondent I carry the '38 Argus to events for documenting - other correspondents are much more into this than me - they develop all film by hand - the old fashioned way : )

FIRST STEP TO FREEDOM

The Patriot in this photo symbolizes the First Steps to Freedom in the fight for the establishment of our country.

In the continuing fight for the preservation of our freedom soldiers today have stepped forward, like our Patriot of the Revolutionary War represented here, to continue our Nation’s upward climb in the defense of our freedom.

LEGACY OF HONOR

The World War II Soldier is a member of “The Greatest Generation”. He reflects on those soldiers of Vietnam who were not welcomed home as our soldiers are today.

The WWII Soldier respectfully gives thanks to the men/women of Vietnam – he passes on to them the Legacy of Honor that they were denied. This photo shows, no matter what war, the legacy of honor is for all.
