Hi all,

Well my oldest daughter , Elizabeth as gotten the scrapbooking bug. She is having a ball, and lovin' it. We have just, last night, booked our summer vacation to WDW. I would love to get her scrapbook started for our trip before we go. She started on Jay's pictures from his duty in Iraq and is now doing Ethan's books from birth. :yikes:

I do not scrapbook and I have no idea where to start. Could you all great scrapbookers out there point me in the right direction to get her started? We are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge and I would love to see animal themes as that is Ethan's love at the moment.

Thanks so much.
Ellen

www.mousememories.com (http://www.mousememories.com) for starters.

They have a really sparkly dimensional animal paper. I tend to like plain cardstock for the pages and would cut out the animals and use them as embellishments. There are also a couple wonderful 'designer' safari (Safurry) papers and if you were to call Barbara (number on website) she can talk you through your choices. (This is Barbara Bennett - soon to be Allears author)

When I get home, assuming I remember, I'll scan in some of my recent AK and AKL pages and post them - but they'll be very different from Elizabeth's because I don't have children to photograph.

You'll be the next one hooked, Ellen! (And I have a great idea for a Christmas present for her, lol)

I like the 12x12 for the "year in the life of..." I do one each year. However, if you want to be specific about something, I like the smaller scrapbooks: 8x8 being my current favorite. It is easy to have it done before you leave and just add the pictures as you go, or you could get her the basics (album, some papers & embellishments) and let the pictures then dictate the page layouts.

My dream is to shop in the scrapbook section in WDW.

Good luck with this, TMom has given you great suggestions. She is "Scrapbook Extraordinaire":)

Looks like you already have excellent suggestions.

Have fun with it! But, Beware!

It gets pricey!

I can attest to pricey. Now if my scrapbook/craft room wasn't all in the floor in my front room waiting for DD to finish moving her room to my old scrap room so I can move into her room I'd be working right now.

Ellen as I'm moving and cleaning I KNOW I have stuff I can send you that I don't use or have doubles of :D

It certainly does get pricey, but I love doing it! I love going to Jo Anne Fabrics to peruse the scrapbooking section. Their paper and supplies are pretty well priced.

My skill PALES before twinks' raw TALENT - her books are coordinated works of art. Sheryl is another talented Scrapper - and Kristen - who even uses STAMPS.

twinks, you'll be disappointed in the WDW scrapbook selection - it's getting smaller every trip. Although they do have a "park" pack that includes some signage.

I would also recommend going to some sites like www.scrapbookflair.com (http://www.scrapbookflair.com) and search under the subject Disney. While many of these are digital, she may get layout ideas. I also recommend www.mousememories.com (http://www.mousememories.com) They are one of the few places left that I buy non digital supplies from. Creative Memories also has disney themed albums and page kits that are very nice. (I think LynneR is a consultant for them).

Chris - you're in Tampa? I hear there is an absolutely wonderful scrapbook store there with amazing crops - do you know it? My source said something about 'comfortable chairs'. . . unheard of at most scrap stores.

Ok, here are my first attempts at scanning and making a composite.

The lettering on these pages comes from my suggestion for your Christmas gift - a Cricut. There are lots of people on this site who swear by them (and they're so easy to use, you don't have to swear AT them)

Also, I forgot to say - both AKL and AK have wonderful hand made in Africa paper and embellishments from this company :

http://www.ecoafricapaper.com/KitsGiftBoxes/ They are about $3.00 less expensive on the web site than in WDW.

Hope this is a help.

Nice layouts, Linda! Do you know the name of the store? There are a lot of stores in the Tampa area, just none too close to me. There are two that are about 30 min drive.

I love your pages Linda! Now darn if I don't need to actually scrap something from a trip :D
