Most of you know I work in Manhattan. Today while out to lunch I was walking through Battery Park looking for a picture opportunity for my Project 365. I Just Couldn't Believe My Eyes. To my surprise I saw this.

I've seen wild turkeys before, but never in an urban setting outside of a zoo and most definately not in what might be considered the most cosmopolitan city in the world.

Timon my pet, that turkey was probably lost. They are not known for having much smarts. It's a cool picture though.

She looks more like a peahen to me. That's not a turkey head....much too pretty. Still looks very lost and cool photo regardless! :)

I saw wild turkeys one time on the train near Frontierland at WDW. I didn't have my camera ready so rode around the 2nd time, but they were gone then.
Another time -- I was out in more rural Minnesota for a meeting and encountered a former colleague there who visited with me in his office for a bit. He's big time wild turkey hunter; his office showed great evidence of this. The very next morning on my way to work here in St. Paul, MN, I had to pause at a very busy intersection for the wild turkeys to cross. I've never seen them before or since at that intersection. We are pros at waiting for the geese to cross the road, however!

And here I thought the only place to find a Wild Turkey in Manhattan was on the rocks.

I walked through the park this morning on the way to the office and spoke with one of the park employees and he confirmed that it is indeed a turkey. It's been around for a couple of years. I'm amazed I haven't seen it before because I've been in that park hundreds of times since he said it arrived.
