Thought I would start this up, and because it's snowing again for the zillionth time this winter already, is snow a fair assignment? Those without snow can photo something white........ or Blizzard Beach?

Where's the photo, Nancy? Please share one for we snowless folks :(

Not that I'd move back to Boston for the snow - you all had a tough December.

Well, I'm gonna wait for others to show up to see if they want this topic. Wasn't sure about starting up the thread myself, usually Mark has shown up to do that......

Boy have I got photos for this one - it's been snowing here for days!

Don't wait for me. Sounds like a great idea. We don't see much of the white fluffy stuff here in Houston, but I saw enough in Colorado last week to get me through another year or two.

I will start us off. This was taken after a storm a few winters ago. It is the view from our patio doors.

A bit of advice about taking pictures in the snow - be careful with your exposure. Your camera's meter can get confused by all the white snow. The problem is that the meter doesn't understand the difference between black, grey, and white. It thinks that they are all the same and that the lighting is what is different. When it sees white snow, it thinks "gosh, that grey is really brightly lit". As a consequence, it underexposes the picture and the snow comes out looking grey.

So what do you do about it? One option is to switch to spot metering and then carefully meter off of something closer to grey in brighness. Another option is add in a stop of exposure compensation.

Hey, do I get extra credit for video? I'm trying to learn to use my video camera (I'm totally confused by it) and my video editing software (I'm totally confused by that as well).

The first video is of the kids sledding down my parent's street:

http://barbieri.smugmug.com/gallery/4088287#238286714-A-LB

The second video is of me, my wife, my kids, and a nephew and two nieces sledding down a hill at the YMCA camp near my parent's house:

I'm relatively new to video, so if you have any suggestions for improvement, I'm all ears (or eyes, I guess).

Just a few shots early morning after the ice storm we had. First one was out the front door with my JOY sign half covered.

This one is from the screened in porch showing the bird island and you can see my poor cold deer on the right.

Here are 2 that were taken at the beginning of Decemeber. Joe took them. The first was taken across the street facing my house, it was taken at night obviously. And the second one was taken at the same time and the mist I think is Joe's breath!

My backyard before Christmas, unfortunately through the window, which made for some weird blue shadows.

OC's first snow, last year. I'm sure Dimples thought he was crazy to be lying in it. SHE didn't want to get her boots wet.

Taken back on November 17, 2007. Our first snowfall of the season. As Mark said, I had my exposure compensation at +1.3 for this one.

A view of the Mid-Hudson Bridge from the south:

Most of the snow and ice will probably be gone within the next few days - we're expecting above-freezing temperatures up through this weekend.

This would make such a pretty scene, if it weren't for the high-voltage lines cutting through the field:

That's very unique, I don't think I've ever noticed snow on a spiderweb before!

We finally had snow- it's only been 3 winters - so we're a bit excited when the snow starts to fall. This was last week... it just started to snow. Yeah, we got maybe a huge inch of snow. It was gone by the next day. :(
Taken out my front door.

Here's Carol at Mont Tremblant, north of Montreal.

We leave Wednesday for our annual slide down the slopes.

We had horizontal snow today with complete white out conditions. Closed the airport. Of course, I left my camera at home. I am working really hard at the 1 photo a week thingy.

What an amazing view, Gary! I now suddenly understand why people purposely hurl themselves down the side of a mountain that's slicker than snot. It's all for that view, isn't it?

That view is about 2/3 of the way down the mountain. It's even better from the top.

I'll try to get a better shot this weekend.

Had some fluffy snow last weekend and got to the barn to take some pictures. This is Klyde, a half-Arabian gelding, my daughter trains and shows for her Aunt.
