I heard a rumor that they are taking out a lot of the movies in the great movie ride to replace them with DISNEY movies.

Is this true????

I've not heard this, but it is definately something worth looking into. I just hope they don't change the whole ending. It is so nostalgic seeing all those old movies!!!

Oh, I hope not. The montage at the end is one of my favorites. It gets me crying everytime.

I did hear that the rehab was going to be exteded thru sometime in June. What I heard was that that was due to cutback in the nightime workers, but maybe it's because they are making changes.

Keep us posted on any news you hear on this.

There seem to be lots of rumors about the Great Movie Ride, but the majority seem to think that it is currently closed from Feb 24th - Mid June for minimal changes and general clean up.

I've heard everything from replacing the movie scenes with Disney scenes, to making it a 'villains' ride.

Guess we will find out for sure my mid June!

A villains ride would be just too cool. 8) I'm partial to the current version after getting a sweet behind the scenes talk on the ride in January. Our group asked to wait for the next 'Bandit' car. While we stood aside and waited we were treated to a few ride secrets, such as Hidden Mickeys on the ride. For more details, see my trip report and scroll down to the section marked "Serendipity."

Great rumors question, Pinky! Thanks for bringing it up! :)

I asked the question on a shareholders' discussion site and here's the response sofar:

I haven't heard anything, but I'll keep my ears open. Such a move would make sense, though. Disney has long been rumored to be toying with changing the name of the park from "Disney-MGM Studios" to "Disney Studios." The idea is that back when the park was first built, Disney didn't have enough of its own movies to base a whole park on. In the years since, Disney's library has grown considerably.

That isn't as bad as it sounds, aside from the many family-style and animated features under the Disney name, did you know that Touchstone and Miramax are actually part of the Disney Corporation? That means the recent hit 'Chicago' is actually a 'Disney' movie. 'Signs" with Mel Gibson was technically a Dis movie. I am sure the fellow who issued the above quote will look into this further and his sources - many CM's (he lives in Tallahassee) are very reliable. I'll let you know if he writes more on this.

I really hope that they don't take out all of the current movies... I would REALLY miss the section with all of the Munchkins in Oz :(

OZ is the one movie I could do without....LOL...seriously let's hope they leave the classics in if they do change it at all.

Hope they leave Bogey where he is - last time I filmed the entire ride from entrance to exit and when we came to the Casablanca scene - Bogart turns and nods into the camcorder lol - timing is everything
a bit of Disney Magic right there : )

Hi Everybody,

I just read the new scheduled opening is June 29th. I am not sure how true it is.

I was at WDW between March 9-17. All I could see is that work was being done on the outside of the building -- work to stablize the carvings, etc. It was too fenced off to see if any work was being done on the inside of the building.
