I'm kinda trying to think of what I want for Christmas... I know I want a Cricut (Thanks everyone but putting the bug in my ear about these:) but I really think I want an embroidery machine, too. I know there are quite a few out there, a huge price range, and there are some Brother ones that are Disney machines or do DIsney embroidery.

Does anyone have one or do machine embroidery that you could give me the benefit of your expertise to know what to ask for? I'm not going to be using it really heavily, just stuff for our family for gifts, etc., and of course a ton of Disney stuff for me:)

I probably want to do towels, too, monogramming I mean, and just things for my personal use, but I could use some advice!

Thanks!

I bought Cathy the Brother Disney machine a few years back (and then upgraded it when the new one came out :yikes:) and she loves it. She has done shirts for me and some towels and fleece blankets. She really likes that it is also a regular sewing machine in addition to doing the embroidery.

My neighbor ( www.neatniksbibs.com ) has one that cost more than my house! It's AMAZING!

Towels can be tricky. Depending on how thick they are, you may not be able to hoop them. In that case, you'll need some sort of stabilizer that's sticky, and you just lay the towel on it. You also need some sort of water dissolvable stabilizer for the top, to keep the stitches from sinking into the terrycloth.

If you're talking about kitchen towels to dry your dishes, then ignore what I just said. But any sort of terrycloth towel needs special treatment.

I love my Disney embroidery/sewing machine and use it frequently.

Cathy did a run of 300 golf towels for the annual golf tournament at the school. She was making all kinds of nasty noises through the first 25 or so, until she got the method down. After that, it was pretty routine stuff. And they came out really nicely.
