View Full Version : Storage space for luggage
Hi,
We'll be taking our first cruise in August. We'll be spending 9 days at the parks before the cruise and will have a large number of suitcases. Can anyone tell me how much storage space is available. We're in a Cat 6 stateroom.
thanks!!

From what I can remember from our Disney cruise, there is NOT a lot of storage in the rooms. There is a closet with a bar and an upper shelf and a chest with drawers. There are also a few drawers in the desk I believe (that you can use for clothes).
I think that the cabin steward may be able to take your luggage and stow it someplace for you until the end of the cruise.
I would HIGHLY suggest you not take a ton of luggage/clothes. Plan on doing laundry or sending you stuff out to be laundered twice instead of packing for a 14-day trip. You will be MUCH happier not having to lug all that stuff around.
The rule for a cruise is: Pack everything you think you want to take - then unpack it all, put half of it away and then re-pack. It's totally TRUE!

Poly,
How are you getting to the ship from WDW? If you'll have your own car I'd recommend leaving some stuff in the car. The parking lot is guarded so it should be safe.
As far as storage in the room, I think there is ample storage for the suitcases, provided they fit under the bed. Most standard depth suitcases will fit comfortably under the bed and the beds are very light so if the bag is a tight fit, you can lift the end of the bed to slide the bag underneath (once you clear the bedframe, there are a few extra inches). If the bags don't fit under the bed (more likely with hardsided bags or framed duffles than softsided cases), you can always use a corner of verandah. Unless you have unusually rough seas, they'll be fine out there. If you have an inexpensive tarp (like from the dollar store) or a cheap vinyl tablecloth that won't take up much space in your bags, you can wrap that around the bags with a bungee cord or luggage strap before leaving them outside to protect them from some of the damp.
We had 4 adult women in one stateroom on a 3-night cruise and had plenty of drawer/closet space for all our stuff. Folks have recommended using a cheap (think Dollar Store again) over the door shoe bag for toiletries/sundries in your stateroom. With the split bathroom this is nice b/c you can hang it outside the bathroom so if you need to brush your teeth or something, you don't have to worry about it being locked in the toilet area while DH is having his daily ponder (if you know what I mean). Also works for sunglasses, disposable cameras or any other stuff you might want to grab as you leave the stateroom.
Thanks for the great ideas. I'll hit the dollar store before we go. We won't have a car with us ,so I may have to break down and do some laundry while we there. Might be something to do on our first night at the Renaissance ( Sea World).
I'm sure I'll have a miilion more questions  so be ready for them!

I LOVE talking about the Disney cruise so ask away.
Okay...
Right off the bat, what do my teenaged daughters need in the way of clothes? ( especially for dinner)
They think we're on a RCL cruise and we're not telling !

Poly,
Are you on the Wonder or the Magic?
I'm going to respond assuming the Wonder. The next question is whether your girls are dress/skirt girls or blue jeans girls...
If your girls wear dresses, casual sundresses would be fine for dinner at Parrot Cay and Animator's Palate - I'd have them carry a cardigan though b/c the dining rooms can be cool with the AC going. Nothing too short or revealing would probably be best. For Tritons, something a little bit dressier would match the feel of the room and allow you to have a more formal picture of the family.
If the girls are anti-skirt, then a nice pair of capris or trousers with a pretty top would be fine. Again, I'd recommend a bit dressier for Triton's as it is the most formal of the 3 dining rooms.
Of course, if the girls enjoy dressing up, then just bring their favorite dresses.
The bottom line is that you'll see all sorts of attire in the dining rooms. Some folks go all out and dress to the nines every night. Others look like they just walked on the ship after their shore excursion. My preference is to make dinner an "event" and dress up each evening, but IMO, as long as you are neat and not wearing shorts or jeans you'll be okay.
If you're on the Magic, they do have one formal and one semi-formal night. Those would be great nights to bring out the prom type dresses.
Here's a picture of me from our Triton's night in February.
