It never ceases to amaze me how often you can get different stories about information concerning WDW!
According to a CM I spoke with today, who has worked on several different projects concerning rehabbing resorts, POR will not close. They will do it in stages, building by building.
This is one source that I think is on target. It just makes sense to do it that way. Closing a resort completely that is as popular as POR is just not good business!
Now, that being said, even he said that you just never know with Disney what is going to happen. Right now the plan is to start the rehab once POFQ is reopened.

This is also what I had heard Francine. Although I can't remember where I heard it from, it seemed like a relatively reliable source at the time. :D
Selfishly, I kind of hope this happens. I'm at CBR in May and I'm afraid if they close the entire POR, all of those displaced people will flood into CBR. I hope it's not too torn up...this is one place I would like to visit when I am there as a possibility for a future stay.
Thanks for the update Francine!!

Unfortunately, this is how it is when dealing with Disney. The lower level at times know what's going on, at other times they are giving you pure conjecture.
Since I know that everything is subject to change at a given moment, I personally would never post one way or the other until I had official word.
As a Disney Earmarked Agency, we do have access to people and information others are not privy to. I had met with the some of the higher ups from Celebration (which is where the office are) last week, and this question was brought up, the closure at that time was denied. Can it change by next week, sure it can but I doubt it.
Closing PORS would most likely never happen due to its room capacity. If you logically think about it, every family of 5 would have to be upgraded to a deluxe at a comparable cost. WL and AKL reg rooms do not sleep 5, so therefore they would have to upgrade to the Polynesian, GF, YC, Contemp etc. Since they booked a family of 5, they would have to comp a family of 5. (when they closed POFQ they upgraded for a slight fee) This would not be in Disney's best interest as they can achieve higher revenue at those resorts.

Thanks for letting me know what you would post Nanc. Personally, I think rumors and conjecture are fun to post and discuss. Is this something that is unwelcome here?

I'll jump in at this point and provide my prefences for the site. We have a board set up for rumors, and that is the BEST place for those tidbits that we hear until they are confirmed by Disney. I happen to LOVE hearing rumors, and know to take each and every one with a HUGE grain of salt.
That being said - conjecture is always OK in any forum, as long as it is provided as just that - conjecture - and we don't let ourselves get upset when someone disagrees with us. Its about sharing ideas in a friendly manner.
If someones does or does not post rumors is completely up to them, and their personal preference. Since Nanci runs a business, I see it in her professional best interest to provide facts whenever possible. Given her close ties to WDW's inner workings I'm sure she hears all KINDS of rumors. Posting them all on bulletin boards would be irresponsible and most likely have her phone ringing off the hook to explain WHY she said something that turned out to be false.
Back to our regularly scheduled programming... :)
