Has anyone heard the rumor that Disney is considering building a park here in South Texas namely San Antonio area. From two different people I have heard a rumor that Disney is planning on building a park on the far west side of San Antonio near Sea World. This area of town is booming right now in the real estate market with the new Toyota plant that just opened up. That would be weird to have a park so close, and yet it wouldn't have the same magic as WDW. (to all the teachers on the boards forgive my runon sentences)

I can't imagine them building another 'Disneyland' since that would compete with Disneyland and WDW. Disney did talk (hint?) in it's last stockholders report about 'mini-parks'. A resort, ranch, water park... I don't remember if they were clear about what they were thinking about.

I've heard it from many San Antonio locals that something Disney is happening but we also hear that from Houston too!

I've been hearing rumors of Texas for years - so much that I just think of it as a rumor. Kind of like Walt on Ice. ;)

Hey Disneyfan9771 :waving2: Welcome neighbor!
What I have heard is similar to what Robin said. Disney is going to be putting up resorts around the U.S. and some of these may even have one attraction. The resorts are to be like the resorts already existing, aka Wilderness Lodge with a Splash Mountain attraction. We will just have to wait and see!! There is no better place to start than in Texas!!;)

Where did you hear that, James? I didn't see anything about it in the Dallas Morning News, although I did discover we have a neighborhood referred to as the Disney streets. How cool would it be to live on Peter Pan Drive? I'll check with a friend in Denton to see if she knows anything.

Come on guys.... I just moved from Texas a year ago.... My old house is for sale again (the beautiful one we had builtt on 1/2 acre with 5 bedrooms and 3 baths....) Don't mess with me now.......:) I love Arizona... We lived 15 minutes from Schlitterbahn, Sid.. beautiful area but so much rain and lots of mosquitoes, triple the taxes we pay here. I think I will stay here anyway. I might be tempted to travel back for a Wilderness Lodge though..LOL....:)

I have got two people in Denton that are checking too! My source in WDW told me that it is true and they are checking with someone else too. We will have to wait and see. All in all you never are sure until Disney announces it but I will keep my fingers crossed!!

We are moving back to Texas from Florida at the end of the year after living here for 8 years. The only thing I'm going to miss about Florida is being so close to Disney World. I only wish this rumor were true!! I'm going to miss Disney World so much, no more driving over for the week or going every other weekend. I will be lucky to visit once a year now.

The Disney in Texas rumor is older than the 5th gate rumor. They both could happen but I'm not holding my breath.

Ditto, this is an o-l-d rumor.
Disney has invested in real estate ventures around Texas for years and only continuess to feed the rumors.

Too bad, but I think that it's all just rumor. DS lives in Denton and has DL contacts, since he used to work in Entertainment out there. I strongly suspect one of his contacts would have told him if that was true. As far as the other rumor, DS #2 lives near San Antonio and his job is to facilitate bringing companies to his city. Since he's often in the company of others who do that around the area, I'd think his antenna would go up if he heard the word "Disney".
