Hello Everyone!
I am new to the Tagrel website.
I have a few questions.
I am looking to possibly rent about 100 points to stay in a Studio at any of the resorts in Disney.
We were thinking about going May 8 or 9th through the 14 or 15th.

1- How does the renting process work?
2- Is it likely that I could get these dates in May?
3- What is the big difference between staying in the studio and a regular room at a moderate resort?

Thanks for your help!

June 93- Polynesian Resort
June 94- outside of Disney
April 02- Coronado
May 03- Coronado

Hi there aleeta, and welcome! It's great to have you with us.

To answer your questions: renting DVC points from a member is a transaction that you enter into as a private party with that member. You come to an agreed upon price, somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 right now, and an agreement as to how the monies are to be transferred. Typically the member will want 50% down to make the reservation and the other 50% within 30 days of the date you plan to travel. Once the funds have been transferred, they will send you the reservation confirmation and you are in.

There is a certain amount of trust involved in these transactions on both parties parts, but I have not heard of a point rental going wrong.

That is how the deal works, in a nutshell. I can recommend your visiting the DIS boards at http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=29. There are a ton of listings there and a good FAQ that should get your questions answered in depth.

As to whether you can get these dates in May, that will depend on how flexible you are about where you want to stay. If you are open to any of the DVC locations on property, I'm pretty sure you will get a studio.

Having never stayed at a moderate, I can't give you a comparison between the two rooms. I would think the biggest difference will be the kitchenette in the DVC studio. It is a great convenience to have that available to you right in the room. At least we think it is. If you can, why don't you try for a 1BR at the OKW? That will really show you the difference between the DVC accomodations and the other resorts. But be carefull, it could become addicting!

Hope this helps and let us know what you decide.
Joe

Welcome aleeta, :bounce:

Its great to have you here, and the first thing I was going to do was point you to the DIS site, because they have a wonderful board dedicated to those renting DVC points. But I see you have already found it over there! :winking:

I have never rented points (buying or selling), but I have read a few pointers.

- Any DVC member can try for availability at any of the resorts for a MAY 2004 vacation. OKW is the most likely to have availability, but there could be something at one of the others. OKW will also have the lowest point cost. AND its a beautiful resort! :)

- Read the FAQ on the DIS rent/trade board. LOTS of great info in there! Renting typically entails trust on both the sellers and the buyers sides. Many like to first find someone renting points, and then do a search on the DIS to see what/how that person comes across in their other posts to get a 'feel' for their character. HOW the rental works is totally between the buyer/seller to come up with, but I would definitely ask for some sort of written contract.

- Last - Studios are very similar to a standard room, except you get a small kitchenette that includes an undercounter refrigerator, small sink, microwave and toaster. A few paper plates, some coffee cups and glasses, and some plastic silverware. It is great for breakfast in the room, or keeping some nice cold water/soda there in the room! Also, many of the studios will have a queen size bed and a fullsize pullout couch. (OKW has two beds). I have pictures of a VWL studio here: VWL Studio Photo Tour (http://tagrel.com/Tours/DVC/VWL/VWL_StudioTour.htm)

Hope that helps, and don't hesitate to ask any other questions that you might have! :)
