Some of the rumors could also effect MGM.

Resort News - (8/9/07) After weeks of ongoing talks between Disney and the developer who wants to build 1,500 condos and low-rent apartments within the Anaheim Resort district, the talks have come to abrupt end with no settlement reached between the two. The city has delayed the requested public vote from Disney to block the project once and for all in the hopes that the two could reach an agreement, but that just isn’t going to happen. From the sound of things it will go back to the city council one more time.

(7/27/07) The premier of the Disney Channel’s anticipated High School Musical 2 will take place at the AMC Theaters in Downtown Disney on August 14th with the celebrities walking down the red carpet prior to the 6pm screening.

(7/26/07) The future of the Disneyland Resort is looking quite bright these days it seems as various reports are being circulated about the web claiming that California Adventure was given a budget in the $1 billion range to add new attractions and fix all it’s problems over the next several years. This is in addition to any funds already on the table for current projects in the works such as Toy Story Mania. It’s also nice to note that this new budget is more than it cost to build the entire park in the first place.

From the report posted to Bluesky Disney (http://blueskydisney.blogspot.com/2007/07/blue-sky-alert-america-anaheim-deeds-to.html), the park has been handed over to a single WDI master planner Bob Weiss to oversee the entire development in much the same way that Joe Rhode oversees the development of Animal Kingdom in WDW.
This isn’t to say that Disneyland itself wont be getting it’s own love and new capital as well, as the original Disney park has been placed under the steady hand of Tony Baxter who has his eyes set on a number of improvements, especially that old Peoplemover / Rocket Rods track winding around the Tomorrowland skyline. Another sign of future Disneyland projects will come from a renewed relationship with Lucasfilm for future Star Wars and Indiana Jones projects. They mention we might finally hear an official announcement about Star Tours 2 in 2008 as well as a greater link between the Star Wars theme and Disney parks in the future on both coasts. This reflects the rumors I’ve been hearing about from the Disney-MGM Studios in Florida where it’s been rumored that the only new E-ticket projects they are even considering for that park would have to be tied into either a Pixar of Lucasfilm project.

The Disneyland Resort side of things will also see a few high profile projects begin as well, including the addition of a DVC wing to the Grand Californian and the complete renovation of the existing Disneyland Hotel. This will be a total redecoration from top to bottom, allowing the hotel to reflect the Disney theme inside and out. The planned work could begin by the end of this year where they will renovate each of the three towers, one at a time, taking about 9-10 months to complete each one. MiceAge (http://www.miceage.com/allutz/al071707d.htm) has already reported that the three towers will be renamed as well with new Disney appropriate names. The Marina Tower will become the Magic Tower, the Sierra Tower will become the Dreams Tower and the Bonita Tower will become the Wonder Tower. Hmmm… Disney Magic… Disney Wonder… those names have also been used for the two existing Disney Cruise Line ships. With two more vessels on the way, I can’t help but wonder if one will be named the Disney Dreams. They also mention that the private halls will be renamed as well: El Camino hall will become Frontier hall, Marina Ballroom will become the Magic Kingdom Ballroom along with other related name changes throughout.

The report also mentions long term plans to build a few more resort hotels in the future (next decade), with the parking lot next to the Paradise Pier Hotel being the likely home for one or two of them.
