I've found information about the cost per point. but how much do maintaince fees generally run? I think I've talked hubby into looking into the DVC. If nothing else, we're looking at a "business trip to investigate". :D

Since each resort is different, with a different number of units, shared amenities, etc. the yearly maintenance costs are different at each resort.
While some of the resorts are sold out through Disney, you could always purchase at your favorite by going the resale route.
Here is a list of the Maintenance fees, per point, for 2003:
Beach Club Villas - $3.97
Boardwalk Villas - $4.10
Hilton Head - $3.69
Old Key West - $3.49
Vero Beach - $4.37
Wilderness Lodge - $4.05
Once I got my DW to take the tour it was a piece of cake to get her to buy in! Those 1 bedroom units are the best!

Cheri, once you have seen or stayed in a 1 bdr villa, you will never stay anywhere else. We originally purchased our 175 points by taking out a second mortgage on our home. The payments were very small, I want to say like $190 or so a month. The interest was tax deductible (for us) Then when we sold our house, we took out some of our equity and paid off the membership. Now we essentially stay for "free" just having to pay our maintenance fees each year. The way we figure it we are staying at a $350 per night room for only about $50 a night. DH did a spread sheet and figured out that the costs / benefits average out that if you go 10 nights a year or so - you are money ahead after about 5 years. I forget the actual math, but it is so worth it!

Margaret is SOOOO right. Once you even SEE the 1 bedrooms its all over!
After you enjoy a vacation staying there you are ruined for everything else. From all the space, the separate bedroom from the kids, the Jacuzzi tub, right down to the convience of the kitchen and washer dryer. Ahhhh.... It just makes the vacation so much more enjoyable.
The only expense for us now as the deal is pd for and so correct in saying that once you have stayed at a 1BR, you never want to go back...but with all the trips we try to make every year..it's either stay at studio sometimes or buy more points....hmmmmmm more points=more magic...gotta get another job 8)
