When did they start having characters there? The last time I went there it was towards the end of the day and we didn't see any then.

I do understand that many people want to see characters, but I just don't see why they have to have them there. I know many people didn't enjoy this part of AK, but I wish they would leave some parts of AK like it was meant to be. I'm thinking next time I go they will probably have characters when you go through the trails which will really make me sad.

Oh well I know lots of people won't agree with me on this, but I'm really just wondering when did they start this?

 Hi Rosebud!

I believe the conversation station is now called Rafiki’s Planet Watch - so it would seem logical to me that Rafiki, and Pocahontas such characters would make good fit out there.

We did not visit there this last trip - but it seems to me that there were some characters there the last time - I don't remember who - I just walked around them and went to enjoy the attraction -- I loved the dark room with sounds, some animals in the nursery, watching the video of an animal medical treatment, and of course the pygmy goats -- love them goats :eyelove: (one of my favorites)

I have found I can move around, pass up the characters most times without having it effect my enjoyment of attractions. I love characters but usually like greet them at Character Meals -- but if Mickey is standing around then all bets are off

When we were there a year or so ago, Tarzan was there. I must admit DW thought that was pretty cool...

You are of course right, but I prefer the original name, and still use it. I was going to also include the new name but couldn't think how to spell Rafiki (I'm assuming you spelled it right)

I guess your right with the name change it would seem that those characters make a good fit. It still makes me kind of sad though to have characters in that part of the park, when they already include characters in so many other places around the park. Hopefully they will stay away from the trails.

I think many women would think it was pretty cool, but not me . I mean come on the guy lived with apes in a jungle and he didn't even have a beard! Personally, he would appeal to me much more if he did. :winking:

They have always had characters at the conservation station. I remember in 97 or 98 (the year it opened) going there and Pocohontas and Rafiki were there... and that racooon from Pocohontas that I can never remember the name of!!

Well I guess I lucked out then, because I've never seen any there. I thought it was new because since they changed the name, I think I've only been there once or twice and it was at the end of the day.

Prior to that I had been there different times of day including mid day and spent quite a bit of time there and never saw a character. I love sitting there waiting for them to bring out the different animals and learn about them.

We were there last week and saw Meeko (raccoon from Pocohontas), Pocohontas, Rafiki and Stanley. My kids also thought it was cool, especially Stanley! We found TONS of hiden Mickeys in the mural inside the building! Kathy

Sorry you are sadden by characters in Disney parks :winking: I guess I have just decided that characters in Disney Parks are just the way it is going to be -- And since the Mouse himself greeted me at the gate on my very first trip to DL nearly 40 years ago - I think I have been trained to expect to see them anywhere and everywhere while at Disney. Kind of helps me with the supsenion of disbelief! Sorry it is not working for you!

Not at all. I love the characters! I just think there are some places they shouldn't be. Oh well, Val met Rafiki and said he is real nice, and she will be working with him tomorrow, so maybe it is a good thing he is there.
