take food into fantasmic?

we have decided against doing the fantasmic dinner package this trip. We have done it every other trip, tried 3 different restaurants (Prime Time, Hollywood & Vine & Mama Melrose) and were not really THRILLED with any... they were all "ok" but not something we would want to do again just to get the fantasmic package. We want to try Brown Derby for lunch on a different day... so that's not an option (I'm not sure even what restaurants are still doing the package, or if they even are)...
so, my question is, what would you suggest for food before/during fantasmic? And can we buy food on the way & take it in with us? Or is that a no-no?

They don't have a problem with you taking food in.They also sell it there.

Since you have been there, remember it's a long walk from anywhere else and carrying food might not be much fun!

Hey, we always do the dinner package. Foot long hotdogs from Rosies and take them in and wait! They also sell some things in there, limited as it is, but food is no problem. My dad and dh enjoy thier beer with it! Not to worry, there are washrooms at the top, too. My kids just love the waves that go back and forth-this is the first place they had seen it. Last time we had some great ones: back and forth many times without stopping, fast motion waves and my favourite-the slowmotion wave! It was just hysterical. The first time we were there was a warmup guy who has everyone turn their camera on and did a flash wave from one side to the other just before it started, so it was dark. Very cool!!

We got grapefruit cake to go from the Brown Derby and had it there. Don't forget to ask for forks from the restaurant or remember to stop at the Sunset Market and get some.

I've also had the hot dogs and soft pretzels sold inside the Fantasmic Amphitheater. Both are quite good. I prefer the chilled bottled drinks as they are easier to tote back to the seat and can be more controlled to prevent spilling.
