View Full Version : experience with concierge
What do you all think about concierge service at the resorts?
Was it worth the money? What did you think about the concierge lounge?
Not looking at any particular resort at the moment - just curious to here some opinions.
Thanks!

we had a wonderful time in concierge in the contemporary
we stayed on the 12th flr concierge, not the 14th flr.
was able to eat breakfast each day b4 hitting the parks that we didnt have a PS for that meal
sometimes we made it back in time for the afternoon snack
was very helpful making said PS's b4 our arrival
also helped w/ late check-out request we had after our arrival
would definitely do concierge again!!!

Loved it.We have done it at both AKL(12 nights christmas 2002) and at the Poly this past July for a week.IOt was nice too let someone else deal with the PSs and too get us one we woke up too and decided we wanted one that day.Breakfast was great saved us a ton on of $$ and some night we uused the hor dourves(sp) as dinner.Didn't need too bring the cups for refills as they had all the coke we wanted.Free use of a fridge to store them in.We are hoping too do it again this christmas(time will tell if we can)

We got a free upgrade into COnsierge at the Beach CLub and I am one of the few who belive it would not have been worth the extra money it cost to stay there if I had to pay extra for it. At least not as much extra as it is.
I did love having the extra foods through out the day but there were 30 to 60 minutes closed times during the day and in our case it was when we happen to be in the hotel room many times. Also the food slection from day to day stayed pretty much the same so I tired of it by day 4 or 5.
For free it was fantastic. If I had to pay more I would not pay over $20 to $25 a night for the both of us and that is stretching it.
Because we got our upgrade at check in we wanst able to make use of the PS arrangement services exceot when we was there. They were not the most helpful for us we felt like we was imposing a bit asking them to do this. We had them try to get PS for Coral Reef one and also PS for the Parasailing. The lady helping us with the parasailing was nicer than the other one helping with dinner PS.
I dont want to make it sound so horrible. I loved what we got just the value to me is not as much as the value to others maybe. We are a couple of 40somethings with our kids grown so I think our idea of vacation is different. we expect to sit down at more restaurants than we would have had we had kids with us. The snacks to us were just that. We only maneaged to be there once for the hourdorves at dinner time and it was pretty good and could have made a dinner but we planned to go out to a restaurant so we ate a little bit to make us go longer until dinner time.

I ahd always wanted to try concierge but honestly did not like the prices when we booked. Nanci from YMJ made a suggestion and it worked perfectly for us.
It was in August 2002, and we had two rooms booked for the WL ( one for my family and one for my sisters family). YMJ had already gotten us a great price for a standard room (I think it was $119 a night). When we were checking in my sister asked if they had concierge available and if so how much more would it be. The wonderful CM checking us in, checked and yes it was available for I beleive it was $40 more a night. We took it and they even got us ajoining rooms. For us it was a great deal, when you figure the original price of our room without concierge was higher than that to start with.
It worked out well for us, as we took full advantage of the food they put out for breakfast. Most of the days we were out for lunch, but were able to take advantage many nights of the hordourves, desserts and cordials. I do have to say, we would take a few desserts in the evening (along with some wine), put it in our fridge and enjoyed it later at night when we got back from the pool. For us it worked out well.

My husband and I have stayed concierge at three different resorts now. He just loves the pampering--and I don't tell him what the price difference is.
A lot of the value depends on your style. We really liked being able to get a quick breakfast--although we got kind of tired of bagels and cream cheese, that being the only protein-rich food served. If you're always in a park around hors d'oevres time, for example, you'll miss the best spread of the day. Well, except at the Poly where the tiny but tasty late-night desserts are quite a treat. Each hotel has slightly different service. For example, the AKL always had the most marvelous juice available, while the BC had tasty bacon wrapped cheese sticks that were to-die-for.
When we traveled with my brother and his family, concierge was a dream-come-true for his teenage son ("They have food all the time!"). And my SIL said, "I need a concierge at home, too." The staff seems able to get PSes for almost anything you want, even at the last minute. I think Disney must keep back a few tables or give the concierge staffs first dibs at them...because we've always gotten whatever we've asked for!
The lounges are great places to meet if you're with a group. They also provide activities for the youngsters. For just the two of us, it was more fun to abscond with some treats and have quiet time in our room.
So, does it feel like you're getting more? Definitely! Is it worth the extra cost? That's a tough one because you really do pay a premium. Sheryl, I can't believe you got it for just $40/night extra! That was a great deal!
Oh, we were comp'd an upgrade to concierge at the BC once. Not something one can count on, but when it happens it is terrific!

Cindy,
As the other Taginators have written, it all depends. What do you seek from staying concierge?
For us, concierge would be tempting if only $40 a night more. Any more of a price jump than that and I'd rather spend that money other ways. You know what I mean?
Here's a concrete example. AP rates for the Polynesian 2/12 to 4/17 are $250 for a garden-view room, $320 for garden-view concierge. If you're staying 6 nights, that's a difference of $420. Maybe it would be worth it to you. But maybe you could spend that $420 on a variety of other things -- a couple room service splurges, a visit to the GF spa, an elegant dinner at your favorite high-end restaurant.
It's all up to what seems like a good fit for you!
Sandi
