View Full Version : More Hours In Pottery Lab

AndyL

I've booked about 24 hours starting June 21st at the County Crafts Center. If you'd like a piece of pottery let me know since I prolly have time for a few elective pieces. Just the usual thing about them. The project would be my own choice & Since I'm still learning the pieces can get a tad "experimental". You'd pay shipping to your house but I'll absorb cost of materials and lab fees because of this.

Samples of some of my pieces can be seen here http://wmg.photobucket.com/pbwidget....1178396788.pbw (http://wmg.photobucket.com/pbwidget.swf?pbwurl=http://wmg.photobucket.com/albums/v11/AndyL/Crafts/1178396788.pbw)

BEAUTIFUL work Andy!! (But you know I'm a fan!)

I particularly love the tea pot, the small footed plate/dish and the multi-colored swirl slab square plate, but everything is just so unique and lovely!

I may be up for something to add to my "Andy Collection". Shoot me a pm when you have some things made. Enjoy yourself!!

Ok Kathi, I'll see what I can come up with.

Man, you are so creative! I still love the piece you made for me.

AndyL

I'm glad to hear that Janie. It's always nice to hear when a person is enjoying a piece I made especially for them.

I would be completely honored to have a piece of yours. I couldn't get the link to work, but I really love teapots or a crock or anything would be super! Do you need to know color or do you pick or what? I'll PM you my address and would be happy to pay the shipping and anything else:)

I would also love to have the complete link, mine keeps saying that it's not found.

Thanks:)

Kelli

Kelli try the link now. It just worked for me. The server may have been offline. There's about 25 pieces pictured and it takes a while for the slideslow to completely load and reloop so be patient.

Making something for you won't be a problem. Teapot or crock you say? I'll start planning that. Cost to you? Just reimbursement for shipping since I'll be experimenting somewhat and the project will be my own chosing.

Hi Andy, I'm new here to the Tagrel site but did want to say I like your pottery pieces. Keep up the good work! :D

We owned a hobby ceramic studio for years but never got into pottery. We kept a couple of the kilns & our daughter has a potters wheel that she used when we had the studio up and running. (what we need now is time to play & the electric hookup for the kilns at home!)

Thanks for the encouragement Debbie, everybody. Sometimes I wish I had a studio here and would like to create more with the freedom 24/7 "hometime" permits. I hope you get your studio finished soon. It sounds like you'd be in it all the time.

I've booked Ceramic Lab time for the next session starting mid January. If you'd like some pottery let me know. Since I'm learning I absorb all the lab and material costs. You?? Just pay shipping.

Oh Andy I would love something. I too liked the teapot but like anything that is funky. Glad that you found something creative to do. Pottery is fun, I used to play around with it years ago.

Cool! Thanks oh this is so exciting. I have to say I love the pic of your dog in the Avatar. I had a blue Merle collie growing up and he looked very similar to your sheltie. Collies and Shelties are such sweet dogs. Have fun at MF and take lots of pics.

Thanks Shelly Belle is probably has one of the sweetest disposititions I've ever seen in one of my pets. She's very much my mother's dog tho and they're close to inseperable except when it's time for me to take her out.

Shelly, I was working on two possible pieces for you. One is a tripod dished plate the other will be a table lamp based on one of my devil jars. One thing I want you to be aware of tho is UPS is not as cheap as it was lately, because of fuel surcharges, even when I ship their least expensive way; by ground. Based on past shipments. I'll guestimate the dish will run about $26 to ship (I hope). The lamp tho is large and heavy and may run $45 or more to ship. (The lamp is an ambitious project because of it's electrical parts). Remember I don't charge for lab, firing or materials in either case; just the shipping when you're deciding the piece you want. Which do you want??

12-07-2007, 07:17 PM
The dish as I bake a lot of cakes, cookies etc and that would be perfect to put such things on. I would be worried about the lamp with my dd's and they are kind of clumsy sometimes. lol. Ok with the shipping costs I totally understand. OOh I can't wait. Congrats on the 18k posts. Yep playing in the arcade will really boost them up.

AndyL
12-07-2007, 07:45 PM
The dish it is Shelly. There is a chance it'll be ready to ship in two weeks if I can get it into the glaze rotation early. Otherwise it'll sit unfired till everybody returns from the holidays January 10th. This time of year holiday projects are fast and furious because of this you're never certain what will happen in a community kiln. There's always a chance for technical accidents but I'm hoping no neighboring pieces will explode or melt. Cross your fingers for an uneventful firing :)

Disneyfan9771

Fingers are crossed and hopes that the dish can get in soon. If not this is something I don't mind waiting for at all. :D

AndyL
12-08-2007, 06:45 PM
Nope, It didn't get in today's kiln loads Shelly. Two loads next week most likely. 6 Kilns are running by the way. That'll give you some idea of what Christmas gifts will do to kiln cycles :)

AndyL

Pieces are starting to come out of the kilns again in dribs and drabs. The county crafts center is keeping their 6 kilns busy this Christmas season bless em and all the pottery community using the center :) They're firing practically non stop cycles trying to get everybody's holiday projects done. :) My projects from this session prolly won't be all fired till mid January because of the volume. You know what? I actually prefer that since there will be less rushing to do their firing that way and less chance of things going kablooie in a kiln explosion. Anyhoo here's a few of the keepers that came out so far this session. I just wish my ancient digital camera took better pix. ](*,)

Version 2 of the Outta Step Sculpture that I tried to put more movement, better stamped decoration and a better glaze on.

These are two improved Devil Jars that will be converted into lamps as soon as the parts arrive. I tried putting a little more personality into them, tried improvements in the teeth and also their glaze.

Hey Andy, that is pretty cool looking. If I had it in my house though my girly girls would get freaked out by it. My girls are very froo froo girly girls. I saw you posting in the arcade this moring very early (or you could say late last night) :D. I hope everything is going well for you and i love the new pic on your avatar of Belle? that is her name right?

AndyL
12-12-2007, 02:49 PM
Yes, that's my sheltie Belle Shelly. She's a real sweetheart and has the nicest temperment of any Sheltie we've had.

Wicked scarey lamp?? :) That's the one I was giving you a choice of. :) Good thing you didn't want it then since it would have scared your girls Shelly. BTW, I expect to be at the crafts center sometime tomorrow. I'll keep an eye out for your tripod plate.

And completed another lamp. Improved the finishing and assembly of hardware. Also here's a plate that I found ready last trip to the ceramics lab. Things are coming out in dribs and drabs still so a few projects may not be ready in time for the holidays. Since none of these are earmarked for people it's just a minor problem. Also found out there was a misfire in the kiln and lost one piece. Luckily it wasn't committed to anybody and I didn't lose half of my project like the last kiln explosion, thank goodness.

The 2008 opening of the county crafts center happens mid January and I've booked about 36 hours of studio time. If you want anything let me know. Since I'm learning it'll usually be my choice of project so I'll absorb material, lab and firing costs. You just pay the shipping to yourself.

I had a nice sort of thing happen to me today in the Craft Center. One of the regional newspapers came in to do a community story about the pottery lab. Besides the people on the pottery wheels they took pictures of me making a Devil Jar. So MAYBE I'll have my pix in the paper in about two weeks when the story runs. I tell you even if the pix never run it really brightened my day. :)

More Ceramic Studio time opened in July & August so I booked some hours before they were taken. If you want a piece let me know. Since I'm still learning my craft at this point all I ask is to be reimbursed for shipping. Materials and lab fees I absorb since it'll be my choice of project.

One thing I'm going to point out about shipping is I use UPS. Fuel costs as you know are going thru the roof so sometimess depending on zone/distance and because I have UPS pack the item (no problems with breakage claims that way) it won't be inexpensive. So please be aware of this.

A big day at the County Crafts Center Today. There's going to be an Art Exhibit by about 100 craftspeople in it. I have 5 pieces of pottery on display. Between the workshops and the Crafter's Covered Dish meal today it should be a nice get together. My camera's charging now and hopefully I'll have some pictures up this evening. :)

Sorry for the delay getting the the photos up. Life just gets in the way of things sometimes. Anyhow here's some of the photos of the art show last Sunday. With about 100 exhibitors you got a nice cross section of pieces to see. With luck this publicity event for the Crafts Center will bring in more people to participate in activities offerd by it..

Andy, I loved your display of what you have made. The bowls are just gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hoping all is well with you and that your mom is doing better. Glad that you are keeping up with the pottery. Take care my friend.
