Okay guys, when do you start making your crafts for Christmas 2004? Either crafts for gifts or crafts for decorations?

I always put aside a few craft items that seem like good ideas to give as gifts but never remember until close to Christmas when there's no time to finish them. When do you start your craft projects and how do you remember?

Do you get books and then get ideas closer to Christmas or do you start now when there's plenty of time?

I have some Santa's that my mother has been making for my whole life. All of my aunts and cousins have them in their houses. It's a simple project but there are very tiny parts to cut and glue so it would mean a "no-rush" type of job.

Do you have any new crafts in mind already for next holiday season?

I've signed up for several pottery courses starting this week. Besides the course objectives I work in a few projects for "me" that tend to be used for gifts if they turn out well

I usually take the month of January off to just relax and then about February, I start up with the crafting. I go back and forth between projects though to keep it interesting.
If I am going to do a craft show in March for Easter, then I make a lot of Spring things.
I try to get into a show in April for Mothers Day and Spring/Summer things.
Then it's right back to Christmas as there are usually a lot of "Christmas in July" shows to get into.

Bumping this up to see if anyone has yet started any Christmas crafts or cards for this year. I am in the middle of a cross-stitch for my sister and I need to be looking through patterns to find something for my mom and dad. I need to do this rather quickly, because an average cross-stitch can take me as long as 3 months to complete. My mom just bought me a Christmas craft book (from the "Gooseberry Patch" series) and I would like to look through for some things that we can make together. But I would like to do this now, when she is out of school for the summer, rather than in the fall when she is busy.

I also plan to make those mason jars with layered cookie ingredients when the time gets closer. I have a book that's got tons of recipes. But those need to be done in November or so. It's a perfect gift for a co-worker or someone that you're not really close to, but yet you would like to have a little something for.

Anyone else getting started?!? :D

I've never made crafts, but the last few years I've been at the receiving end. My friend always has her kids make a things to give as gifts from them. That reminds me...I have a homemade dreamcatcher I need to hang in my new apt. :D

I have been busy making up some Halloween things. I have been painting pumpkins on clay pots, sweatshirts, tennies, socks, and a few wooden lawn punkins as well.

Although I do not make crafts for gifts, I do put together Christmas baskets for DH co-workers, friends and family. They usually contain breads, flavored butters, fruit speads, cheese balls, flavored nuts, homemade peach brandy, and candies. About this time each year I start looking for baskets, interesting containers and receipes. Of course the Peach Brandy is started as soon as peaches are in season.

Pockets, Putting together gift baskets sounds like a craft to me. There's as much as a skill to putting together a creative and exciting one as any craft out there. Don't sell yourself short. OK??
