I just got my intinerary for a work trip and it seems that I will have an 8 hour layover in Los Angeles. Bearing in mind that I am a very nervous traveller who is in perpetual fear of missing a plane, if you were me would you sit at the airport all day or would you take a taxi to Disneyland for the day? I really want to go to DL for a few hours but am afraid I will be so nervous about missing my flight that I wouldn't enjoy DL. What to do, what to do?

SB, as fun as it would be, I would vote no. It is an hour, minimum, from LAX to DL. If you are as paranoid as I am about getting to the airport for a flight, you would give yourslef two hours to get back, just to be sure. By the time you add all the pad time together, you have eaten up 5 of your 8 hours. If I may suggest, grab a cab and head down to the Marina Del Ray shops. It will get you out of the airport, it's a lot closer than DL so you won't be as concerned about the timing, and you can wander around the Marina to stretch your legs. It's something I enjoy doing when I'm in LA and looking for something to kill time.

Stinkerbelle--

If you could re-route your flight from the nightmare that is LAX to John Wayne airport (Orange County), then it would be a yes. But LAX is a NIGHTMARE. I went through that airport once and it was horrible. It took me two hours just to get to the gate. LAX is a security nightmare. And you just cannot take that chance.

And add in to the equation the LA traffic. Oh man.

I vote for the reroute whether you go to Disneyland or not - LAX is a nightmare.

Dont forget about time changes. The suggestion on grabbing a cab and head down to the Marina Del Ray shops sounds more relaxing

Tough one  So close to the magic and yet so far :?: Is there anyway you can get an even later flight? Do you have luggage to deal with? I don't know what I would do, part of me says I would probably really try and go for it

As much as I would like to tell you that 8 hrs is enough time to go to/from Disneyland and catch your next flight..it's going to be tight. It can take a good hour or more each way depending on traffic. If you took a cab, you're looking at around $75. Trust someone who was left behind at LAX and had to take a taxi home.

I would suggest doing something that's closer. You could be glitzy and glamorous and have a nice long lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Stroll Rodeo Drive and laugh at the prices. Or you could have a HUGE lunch and take the leftovers with you at Jerry's Famous Deli and look for stars. I saw Alfonso Ribeiro there once. Don't be jealous.

Just give yourself enough time to go through security. I imagine your bags will be transferred so it won't take you as long as when you first began your journey.

The upside to sitting in LAX all day if you do that is you WILL* see celebrities.

Carol,

You are a genius! I have found another flight that doesn't leave LA until 10:50. I would then be flying overnight but it would give me more time at Disneyland. Now all I need to worry about is my luggage. I will have a pretty substantial size suitcase as I will be in AU for 2 weeks. I know I can't check my bag for an 11:50 flight at 10:00 a.m. can I? Any ideas?

Nevermind. I apparently have the Mouse on the Mind. I looked up fligts from LAX to MCO (orlando) instead of flights home. What a dork. The 6:00 that I am booked on is the last flight from LAX to Nola. Drat.

Didn't mean to make you nervous. There is still a slight chance I may risk it. I may have a friend who lives in San Diego who is a DL annual pass holder pick me up at LAX, we'd spend about 3 hours at DL and then bring me back to LAX to catch the flight. Its very up in the air depending on if she can get off from work etc. Fingers crossed!

What about giving yourself and overnight and flying the last leg of your trip the next day?

You could fly in from AU to Lax but accept any airport that flies from the LA area to NOLA. I've always been partial to Burbank airport. :)

Wow thats an expensive three hours if it works out. I think a one day non park hopper is about $50 or more.
Would I do it? Hmm Im like you a mega worrier about missing my flight.
I dont know if I would but then again I am get to be there more often. I think I woudl opt for the beach or shopping which is much closer.

I agree LAX is the scariest part of all this (I pay more to fly in & out of SNA)

If someone picks you up & drops you off (rather than using taxi or bus) I would go for it. I think you can check luggage the same day even if super early.....

We once went on a Premier Red Boat Cruise (beforer Diney Cruise Line was up & running) out of Port Canaveral and then had 12 hours after we docked until our flight left Orlando. We had never been to WDW. Well.... we rented a car and took off for Disney World. I think we ended up with less than two hours at the Magic Kingdom, but it was worth it! Expensive? Yes! Do it again? Yes! Just driving on to the property, seeing the resorts and just being there we realized we HAD to come back and spend real time there! :mickey::mickey::mickey:

I would go for it! :D

the month they pick to come in at LAX I can not do it.

My work do not give any vacation time in four month block.

but the rest of year I can take off.

I've worked it out.

I have decided to spend the night in Anahiem and come home the following morning. My plane lands at LAX at 10:00 on Thursday morning and after clearing customs and taking a shuttle to the hotel I plan to be in line for the Matterhorn with a Pirates fast pass in hand by 1:00. The park closes at 8:00 this day with no Fantasmic :crying: but I am still pleased as punch to get to go. Will have dinner at the Rainforest Cafe after the park closes and my friend from San Diego is coming up to join me.

I fly home at 11:00 the next morning.

I'm glad you were able to work it out. It would have been frustrating to be that close and not be able to see the park. This way you won't have to worry about your luggage either.

I would take Super Shuttle instead of a taxi - cheaper and they will deliver you to the hotel and will pick you up at the hotel.

Glad that you were able to work this out - Disneyland with NO stress!

Normally I'd recommend the Shuttle, but I've had them circle LAX is they aren't full looking for additional fares or make quite a few stops before getting me home. When I lived in the Valley, the Shuttle could easily take an extra hour or 2 to get home from the airport.

Since in this case, time is limited, I'd go with the fastest method to the airport. I don't 'think' that the hotels in Anaheim have airport shuttles from LAX, but you might want to check if they have a recommended service.

I have found another shuttle service that is a competitor of Super Shuttle that is $15 each way and they give you an estimated time of drop off when you book your trip. At that price I am willing to give it a try.
