Dahling, I don't think I've ever heard of a cricut:confused:. Is it something for scrapbookers? Obviously it cuts something. I guess. If you could share with me what it is, I'd be grateful.

Ta ta..

Holy messup Batman! My first post was made at 11:30 pm or there abouts, I thought I was also the 2nd responder.

Now I see LisaG is using more foreign words. You guys must live in a parallel universe or something.

Carry on, I just thought I'd point out the thread is kaflooey.

I went to a Cricut class at Michaels and really liked it so I went right home and ordered one online. Along with 8 new cartridges. I cannot wait for my toys to get here.

Now I go back to the discount site that I ordered my Cricut from and what do I see? They are releasing Alphalicious, Fabulous Finds, Makin the Grade, and Going Places in February. But in March......Mickey Font and Mickey & Friends. Oh I want, I want, I want.

I'm in love with my cricut and I haven't even received it yet!

They are coming out with one that uses 12x12 paper in May, but I couldn't wait that long and had to get the regular 6x12 now.

I haven't found anyone who sells cricut stuff cheaper than hallmarkscrapbook.com But you have to put things into your "shopping cart" to see the actual price because they are not allowed to advertise it that low.

My sister just asked me yesterday if I wanted one for my birthday (in May) and I said no.

But - if they are coming out with a 12x12 and Mickey fonts I'm going to have to rethink this.

I already have a sizzix and sidekick with 4 alpha so I wasn't sure I needed another toy. Thanks for sharing the info.

Cruey,
A Cricut, pronounced Cricket, is a machine that cuts out diecuts. It looks like a printer, but it doesn't hook up to a computer. You put cartridges in it and type on the little keyboard what you want it to cut out. You can do various letters, shapes, and phrases and select them to print from 1 inch to 5.5 inches tall. I spend a couple dollars a pack on letters and die-cut shapes at scrapbook stores, so this will save me money in the long-run. There are forums out there that talk about Cricut tips and techniques. I can see this becoming an addiction.

The new one coming out in May will cut bigger and will come with 2 teacher themed cartridges. They seem to be marketing the new one to teachers. But I think the original one will do just fine for my scrapping needs. If you go to Hallmarkscrapbook.com they have the machines right there on the home page. If you click on Cricut cartridges it will show all the fonts and shapes.

Posts are showing in a weird order...

Cruey - sizzix and sidekick are also die cutting systems but with out electricity! The sizzix cuts up to 4" shapes and the sidekick does 2" shapes.

I have a cricut. I bought it on QVC. It came with a special font cartridge that I didn't need, so I sold it on eBay and it paid me back for over 1/2 of the the cost of the whole thing. So I bought my Cricut for just about $100.

I have five fonts and the tags & bags cartridge. Carrie I can't believe you bought so many!!!!

Thanks for the link - I'm going to go check it out now.

The big diff with Cricut vs sissix, sizzlets, quickutz is that the cricut can cut in different sizes. With the other ones - what you see is what you get.

And IMHO, the 12" paper will be a bit of a waste unless you are cutting huge letters. Right now, if you cut cardstock to the 6x12 size, you lose a lot of paper between the waste cuts and the peeling off of the remainder. I cut all mine into 4x4 squares and put it in the lower left corner and do the paper resize. It really saves on paper

One hint - always have a cartridge in before you turn the machine one. And turn it off to change cartridges.

Glad to hear you can use smaller pieces of paper. I thought I'd be wasting a huge amount everytime I cut something out. That is one thing I like with my sizzix and sidekick - I can use small scraps of paper for letters.

Same here with my sizzlets machine and cuttlebug. I can use the little scraps and just put them over the letter I want.

Today was the first time I really had time to play around with my Cricut. I just love it. I spent the evening making cute little bugs and butterflies and typing out names and phrases. I used up so much paper and didn't do a single layout.

I know a whole bunch of people who would say the point is to put down as many memories as possible in a quick amount of time................

but I'm NOT one of them! I totally agree with you Linda!

I know BetsyBoo has one and we keep talking about a playdate - hey Betsy! Also, she did some campaigning for Disney stuff with them! I have the Sidekick, the Quickcuts and the little pink and white machine that cuts on 4X4 paper, cant' remember the name of that right now! I probably have about 6 alphabets for Quickcuts and 2 for my sidekick, and am really not planning any more die cut machines. But now that I have heard such great things about the Cricut, and they have a Disney font...

Hey Carrie
I had never heard of this but have been researching online since reading this post. It is expensive, but like you, with the amount of supplies that my daughter and I use, I think it would pay for itself in a reasonable amount of time. Would you by any chance be willing to share a link to the site that you ended up purchasing from?
Thanks
Linnie

Linnie,

I purchased the cricut and a bunch of cartridges from hallmarkscrapbook.com

Also contact Kim Slaymaker at kslaymaker@aol.com. She has been keeping her prices very competitive and has recently been cheaper than hallmarkscrapbook. I've heard lots of good reviews from both places. They are both in Utah and get their products directly from Cricut's warehouse, so they get things the same day they are released off the assembly line and don't incur shipping costs. Kim only gives price lists over email. She is not allowed to advertise her prices because they are lower than Cricut's allowed advertising prices. Instead, all of her business is word of mouth. I just purchased a cartridge from her and she shipped it out the same day I ordered it. Kim does not charge "handling fees" she only charges what it costs her to send it to you. She can get in trouble if people post her prices on message boards. I don't know how closely they monitor non-scrapbook related websites, but the company made her contact a customer that listed her prices on a scrapbook site and ask them to remove the prices so Kim wouldn't get in trouble.

I'd recommend either of these places. To see hallmarkscrapbook's prices you have to add the item to your cart to see the discounted price. For Kim's prices you have to email and ask for a price list. Her business is entirely through word of mouth. Both places are Cricut authorized retailers.

I'm with you, Cruey - only I didn't even figure out that this gizmo cuts stuff. On the index page the title ends with cricut, cricut ... So I figured it was something like beri beri.

BTW everyone, I think we need a scrapbook meet at MF2007. I thought of offering one up for 2006, but was just too busy. But I sure could in 2007. Nothing too fancy, but I'm sure we could do something!!!

I had to go to Walmart yesterday to pick up something, and wandered into the craft aisle;) They have Cricut for $179, which includes the one font cartidge. All the font cartridges were less than full price - maybe they all were $54, Kristen? So, hmmm, that's cheaper than what's been going on eBay - I stopped bidding when it got over $110.

Now, to complicate everything and make our lives more interesting, Quikcuts has a new electronic cutter called Silhouette. I need to find out more about this....granted, they probably won't get Disney shapes like Cricuts, but I love my Quikcuts.

Stuff goes on ebay for way too much money. I'm sure there are deals to be had, but in my experience, ebay is for people who don't do any research and don't know they're paying way too much for stuff.

Lisa, Congrats on you purchase of the bug. If you ever get the time for another forum, there is a messageboard on the cricut.com website. There are a lot of good tips about where to purchase things, how to get the most use out of your cricuts, specific forums for each cartridge, etc. I post on there as TyTysMommy. I don't have a whole lot of posts on there, but I'm just not as diehard of a cricut fan as some people are. I started thinking boy are they odd, but then I guess I'm a Disney diehard, so we all have our quirks. ;)

Opposites Attract and Walk in My Garden are my favorite cartridges...don't have the Mickey cartridges yet, but plan to have them soon.

Ok - I finally got a chance to use my Cricut today and loved it! So far I've only cut out one title. I'm going to a 12 hour crop in 2 weeks so I hope to get a lot done that day using it!

Are the Disney cartridges available yet? I haven't seen them in the stores yet.

At the Cricut site they will be available end of March first part of April. Oh and I've been watching the site at Carrie's recommendation and they are a WHOLE lot cheaper!

I used my Cricut all day yesterday!!!!!!! Got tons of stuff cut out for my Disney topiary pages.

I buy my cartridges at AC Moore or Michaels when they are on sale. They go on sale for $55 to $60 a lot, but I mean really on sale! A month ago, AC Moore had them for 1/2 price! So I always wait patiently for a 1/2 price sale and get them for $45.

If anyone doesn't live near one of these stores, and you want me to watch for a 1/2 price sale for you, just let me know! With the 5% Maine tax and the shipping, they will cost you just over $50. And buying more than one will decrease that shipping cost. Usually they limit each person to 2 of each font.
