Once upon a time, on another web site long ago, there lived a little essay called the Tao of Disney. Basically the premise was - if you had either time or money, you could have a great time at WDW.
Well, in November, I had a great time and it cost me QUITE a bit of money. IN January, I won't have much money at all, but I'd like to make what I have last quite a bit of time.
Does anyone have a copy of this essay? I need the advice, my memory having grown dim.
What's YOUR personal Tao of Disney?

It's amazing how two people can read the same thing and have two completely different interpretations. I remember the Tao of Disney, and took from it that Disney is a for profit business. Everything it does is to add $s to the bottom line.

I also see it Timon's way but there was also mention of how you can use this philosophy of business to better your own vacation. The premise was once you understand the Tao of Disney, you can better plan how you approach cost savings and vacation planning.
I looked for the essay in a Google search but it does not appear it exists online anymore.

Funny indeed.
What I got from the essay is what Timon said... but the most important part of it, for me is embodied in my signature:
There is NO magic, unless YOU make it.

hahahahahahaah I know my laughing is out of context, but I said almost exactly the same thing on another board I frequent and the webmaster's hubby went off on me soooooo badly (definately not like our fantastic Dave!) After that, the trip reports from their next trip were so negative that NO ONE commented after a couple of them and it was all I could do to not say again "the magic you get at Disney has everything to do with the magic you take with you".
I never saw the Tao of Disney, but would have found it interesting I am sure.
Ursilinda, we have had expensive trips and budget trips, with mostly budget trips in there because the "cheaper" we do Disney, the more times a year we can do it. I will admit that I enjoyed our "dont worry about it" trips a LOT, but knowing I am saving to come back again soon keeps the other ones just as much fun. I am sure it is the same for you :)

I'm not sure I can get my hands on that essay, LindaB, but you know if anyone can...However, because of sticky situations that have arisen in the past, and out of respect for Tag and other members of this community, I will not post the Tao here on in any other public forum, should I get it. I do feel pretty confident that I can have it or a link to it in a couple of weeks, (keeping fingers crossed).
In the meantime, there is another thing similar, a book, called Orlando Like a Pro, written by one Rick Namey, whom I had the chance to meet on a trip to California. I believe that book is still in print. Rick talks about the very thing that is at the core of what every Disney goer's vacation goal should be--to get the biggest bang out of their vacation buck. And he asks the question over and over--what is your time worth to you?
And that--is the real question.
Maximize, maximize, maximize for yourself. It is all about you, so do it right. It is your dollar, so get the most for your money.
Should anyone be interested in having a copy of the Tao or a link to it, please send me a PM or an email, but know that I do not have it at this moment in time. I will try my best, though, since you asked, (and you know I love you, LindaB) and I do think that because of what Disney is doing lately (not being consumer-friendly) and because we are "buyers" (and let the buyers beware), I think it would be a valuable thing for us to ponder.;)
