SeaWorld raised the price of its standard one-day ticket by $3 to $64.95 on Friday, attributing the increase to higher operating costs and new rides and shows.
The aquatic theme park also added $4 to the price of front-gate tickets for 3- to 9-year-olds to $53.95. Younger children enter free.
'In the last year alone, we added tremendous value to the guest experience,' SeaWorld spokeswoman Becca Bides said. 'It is typical that we evaluate our pricing as part of our business plan. Over the last few years, these increases have occurred annually.'
The price hikes, the first for the park in a year, follow increases at Central Florida's two other big theme parks, Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando. Last August, both attractions raised their one-day ticket price to $67.
SeaWorld, like the other parks, offers a variety of pricing packages. The one-day admission ticket is the price walk-up customers pay at the park gate.
For the price of a one-day ticket, Florida residents can visit SeaWorld an unlimited number of times for a year with no blackout dates. The program, called Fun Card, also gives guests of the annual pass holder a $5 discount.
The park also offers military personnel and family members free admission.
Bides said SeaWorld's attendance is expected to set a record in 2006. She said the increase was unrelated to price changes at Universal and Disney.
'We assign admission prices based on the cost of doing business and to the value offered to our customers, not on what it costs to enter the other parks,' Bides said.
Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks, which owns SeaWorld, also on Friday announced price increases at its other Florida park, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.
One-day Busch Gardens tickets rose $4, to $61.95 for adults and $51.95 for children aged 3 to 9. The park also offers Fun Cards and free admission to military members.
