View Full Version : Living/Retiring to Florida Chat?

Just a suggestion, but I was wondering if there would be any interest in a 'chat' sometime about living or retiring in Florida? I know several of us have mentioned at different times that we'd love to live there. For some it's just wishful Disney thinking, but for others it's a real plan for the future. By the way, the Mega Millions lottery is over $155M this week!
Having just returned from a Disney trip, but winding up spending most of our time driving through Celebration and other communities in the Disney area, we are putting some serious thought to a possible Florida retirement scenario. I would love to 'talk' with others who live there now - those who've moved from other areas of the country: are you glad you made the move, do you mind the heat, etc. Also, it would be nice to 'chat' with others just thinking about moving there and share ideas of type of community you'd like to live in; Gulf, mid-state, or Atlantic areas; things to consider before/after you make the decision to go....etc.
Any interest?

Since DH and I are living the dream of a wonderful retirment in Fl. ,I hope I can stay awake long enough to join you guys. I'll never cease being a farm girl. Go to bed with the chickens and wake up with them.
If one of you can keep poking me, I'll have plenty to say. Just let me know when!! 8) Figgy

This is one I'd like to make- but I too am the farm girl variety- early to bed early to rise (plus 2 girls home tying up the computer at night). But will try- just remember the thing to think about when moving to Florida is make sure you have space for people to come and visit  .
Pam "Bookwood" who would like to visit her parents in florida now, but may have towait until July.

How do I find the daily chat schedule to plan around? Also, I am flexible to most anyone's own schedule...any good day or time better for the rest of you?

Well, I've never had the desire to live in Florida full time but of course, wished I could be near DW to visit more often. I'd be interested to see what others have said about their move to Florida and also hear from others who made the move and then left again. Should be lots of pros and cons.

Hey Nancy!
I put a link for you.
The chat schedule can be found in two different places on the site. The Link below
Link to Chat Schedule (http://www.tagrel.com/forum/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=2094)
and in the site Calendar. If you have the forums mimiumized then you should see the site calendar on the left hand side under the main menu box. You can see the scheduled chats for the next few days or click on the month and you can see the whole month!
Let me know if you have any questions! This chat will be alot of fun!
great idea, hope I can make it

BetsyAnn,
I am happy with the enthusiastic response for a Florida Living chat! It sounds like most would welcome an earlier chat time. How does a Monday at 7pm or 8pm sound? The 12th of January looks open. Perhaps if we each put on the 'half-caff' coffee pot, we can all stay awake for chatting, but be able to get to sleep later. If this proves popular, but we can't cover it all we could offer a daytime chat a little later. Let me know how this sounds and what I need to do to get the word out.
Thank you,
Nancy

I agree that it should be interesting to hear all the pros and cons. And you gave me a great thought that perhaps even those who aren't looking to live full time in Florida, but perhaps convert to 'snowbirds' might be interested in this chat, too. Good idea Cinderella!

That is a great idea and I think that I could swing by for a bit if it was at 7pm on the 12th!

The date is yours, smallworld0 :D - now what time -- We post all times in the eastern time zone -- so are you thinking 7 pm ET or What time zone are you in?
Let me know what time for sure, then it will get posted on the calendar, and you start a new thread in here with details of the chat - time, date, topic - then the day of the chat that thread will be made an announcement.

BarbD and SuzyQ:
I noticed everyone else who responded is in the East, except for both of you.....and I'm not too sure where Brer is, several feet away from WDW is all I know. :D I am in the Eastern Time Zone. Would 7pm ET work for you or could you make it if we switch it back to 8pm ET? I want to squeeze us all in if possible.

BetsyAnn,
I haven't heard back form anyone, so I guess we should go ahead with Monday the 12th at 8pm Eastern time. Hopefully, that gives people on each coast time to finish dinner or stay awake.
Thanks,
Nancy
PS - Is there anything I need to do, but just show up?

Sorry we didnt get to respond. Suzy and I have been dealing with some horrible weather, freezing temp, snow and power outages. Anyway because of work the earliest I could come would be 5PM 6 would work better but thats 9PM East coast time so it may be a problem. We usullayy eat at 5 but Ill try to work something out.

Whatever time you want to set will be the time. With the three hour difference in time, it is next to impossible to get a time for everyone. So I say go with 8 pm.
