You know this same thing happened with the Lion King. Japan claimed they had the idea first and the characters even had very similar names. I do know there are various ways that Disney gets it's ideas for creative projects. What a shame it would be if this was ever...ooohhh I can't even think it.

L :sun: not signing my name to this!

I think this case is pretty weak. It seems to be based on similarity of species (hey, clownfishes are cute!), the opening scenario, and characters met along the way--which are again species that would have amusing characteristics. The Frenchman says that the beginning is plagerized because they both live in an anenome (duh, that's where clownfish live) and have a parent killed (again, a typical opening scenario for Disney--are there ANY Disney cartoons where the main characters have two parents??).

The Lion King on the other hand really could have been based on the Japanese story. It all depends on whose information you believe!
