This is an excellent article I saw referenced on Rec Arts Disney Parks:

Animation Shutdown at Disney Studios (http://www.sptimes.com/2003/12/21/Floridian/Lost_art.shtml)

I'm pretty upset to see this happen, but I like the part in the article where other studios were snapping up the laid off talent. I like seeing these fine people get new jobs. However, I think this is lamentable that a mainstay of the Disney brand is being so seriously eroded.

One more of the Disney icons fall victim to what my mom calls - "being Eisnerized!"

Very sad state of affairs!

I heard a spouse of a CM talk about this during the trip - she was very saddened by the whole Animation shutdown then and quite disappointed that Roy Disney resigned. The love of money wins one more round! I am sadden!

We can do something--check my post in Mouse-cellaneous. There I have posted a link to a "Save Disney" petition to be sent to the board of directors. I wish more would sign this. I wasn't sure where to post it but even so, it doesn't appear anyone from here is signing it.
There's already over 1300 signatures and growing like crazy. If you guys can think of anywhere else to post this, please do so. Figgy

My brother Sam was affected by this. He's now working full time at the Hard Rock Vault. He's so upset about Michael Eisner.

Maria, I'm so sorry to hear this. I knew he was hoping to go back to MGM in the animation department after he had apprenticed there in 99. I didn't know he was hired only to be downsized in this move. I hope he will overcome this to go on to better his career.

One CM pulled me aside last December and told me that on the day they unveiled the 75 Mickey statues Michael Eisner was "Scrooge-like" until the cameras were going.

Once the cameras were going he was all happy and cheerful.

Once everything stopped....back to Scrooge.
