There were a few rumors I caught while down there during Mousefest.
One in particular was disturbing. Apparently there is some thought being put towards ripping out The River of Time in Mexico and replacing it with a bit of a different slant, with a Disney character as your host.
I'm not sure if I'm in favor of this move. I guess the numbers for this attraction have fallen below the acceptable threshold.

Another darn shame. How an anybody fail to be enchanted by El Rio del Tiempe and especially by the Plaza de Los Amigos that leads up to it?
I guess since the plan to decimate Spaceship Earth seems to have fallen through for now the Profiteers have some extra demolition money to spend.

Well put, Will. I would miss the River of Time, too. Great lazy ride.

I heard that rumor quite some time ago, but not what they would replace it with.
I do enjoy the ride and often go on it, and would miss it. I guess not enough people did though. I just hope they put a good replacement in instead of a lame one.

What a shame, this is always a must do ride for us.

I really liked PARTS of the River of time, but I think they could do a better job on it. It always felt like it hadn't quite found a way to tie everything together. I hope hope hope it's still a boat ride, though! I love all of those! I even loved Splash Mountain until that plunge scared enough to shake for 30 minutes afterwards.
Will, is what you've said about Spaceship Earth confirmed? It would ease my mind!

Oh no! This is a favorite of ours; we ride it several times each trip. There's not a better way to relax and cool off in Epcot. I had been worried though, because there's never any line here and we usually get a boat to ourselves. I figured that probably meant its days were numbered. Hopefully it'll still be there in June so we can enjoy it one last time...

That would stink  I love that ride. THere is never any line for it(I guess thats why they wanna change it). If they change anything in there, I wish they would change the food menu in the building. I really would love to eat there, but nothing looks good to me. It could be more like the Blue Bayou in DL. That was great. To me, good food isnt enough, I need great atmosphere to really enjoy a special meal. They have atmosphere, just the food. IMHO opinion of course 8)

I'm with you Dennis. Our family loves to sit and relax and enjoy the ride, but everyone is right, there never seems to be a line. I'm also with you on the food aspect. We like to try different things (which can be difficult with the kids), but there was really nothing that even enticed us.

There was a line on NYE. Not only a line, but it wrapped a bit and was out the door onto the steps. We couldn't believe it! Figured it must be for something else, but asked the CM and sure enough it was a line. She said it was only about a 20 min wait though. At 12:30 am it was a walk on and that is when we rode it after Illuminations.
We have a picture that I'll have to post. Of course that line didn't come close to the 3 & 4 hr ones at TT and MS that day - not to mention 2 hr wait at SE. It was a good thing we've been there before and didn't need/want to experience everything.

I'm catching up quite late on my Disney 'rumors'. What is this about Spaceship Earth? Not that I don't love it, but if they're not going to do a full redo, it would be nice to hear that they will keep up with maintenance so it doesn't break down do much - or not at all even!

Hi Nancy,
Plans were being put in place to replace the current SE attraction with a new one "Time Racers".
However, the structural engineering team determined that gutting out SE would compromise the integrity of the structure.
They are going back to the drawing board.

Well, hooray, hooray! Not that I don't think SE could use some updating - and perhaps with our recent Mars landings we could incorporate more of our universe into it - but I guess I was hoping for the same type of ride, just much newer with improved technology. I still think the SE concept is fantastic and one of our most favorite rides. Thanks for the update.

I'm relieved too that Spaceship Earth won't be totally "gutted". I had been hoping against hope that it would just be an updating without losing the mood or character of the experience!!
Glad to hear it!
:-)
