I just finished watching the virtual ride presented on the DVD. Will they actually build it or has it been scrapped?

Sorry for my ignorance, but what virtual ride? Was this on the new Little Mermaid DVD?
I don't know what that was like, but with DisneyLand putting its submarines back in the water for Nemo, I thought it'd be great if WDW put the 20K Leagues subs back in the water and do Little Mermaid! It could start just like the old 20K Leagues ride, then as Capt. Nemo (;)) is talking about the voyage we're about to take, some sailor can interrupt saying he saw something off the bow. And we'd see Flounder come up, then Ariel and Sebastian! it'd be a whole voyage of Ariel! In the queue line, along the lines of the seagulls going "Mine!", we could have Scuttle asking people if they have a snarfblatt and other items.
It'd be a great upgrade for that area, using this new technology, and it'd tie directly into the Ariel's Grotto character meet!

Great idea roguepony! However, I think that the entire 20,000 leagues is now full of dirt and a pooh playground. I like your idea much better than the playground that is there now.

Thanks, Cheri! I think something other than a playground should be there too. I know it's filled in, but they had gutted the sub area in DisneyLand too and was willing to restore it. Disney supposedly announced that Pooh's Playground was never meant to be permanent anyway (And there will still be playground areas in the parks if this one is gone, for the people who prefer that.) They have plans to replace it within 10 years of its creation into a major attraction (one of the rumors is Villain's Mountain).
I love the idea of Villain's Mountain and as much as I loved 20K, it had become too old the way it was. But a submarine ride is so different! And I would think a Villain's Mountain would need more space. So I thought this was a good way to bring the new sub technology to WDW and give Ariel a great attraction.
Just picture it: you're sitting in that seat, gazing out the porthole as you start to dive. Just like before, Captain Nemo is talking when a sailor interrupts about seeing a mermaid! :D

From what I gathered after my excitment settled down ~ cause the ride looked soooo cool and I couldn't wait to go on it.... I think it was going to happen but it's NOT going to
It was a thought but it didn't pan out.

I saw the DVD and the ride! I loved it, especially going 'under the water' and back up again.
I wonder where they would have put it. Where Pooh's Playground is?

I just read an interview of the creator in one of my DH's audio-video magazine. Supposedly the idea is 100% shelved. :(

That's how the DVD sounded to me too. I wonder why?
I'm glad they put it on the DVD though; it was a great chance to experience at least in this one way, like the Imagineers said.
