Day 1 Monday December 1, 2003
I had been looking forward to this trip for well over a year. Betsyann and I had decided we would meet in WDW the first week of December in the Summer of 2002. Then when Mousefest got in the planning, it just all fell into place and I could not be more excited. Then came the “am I going to get to go” and thankfully the surgeon had said “sure, just take it easy”. Thankyou Dr. Conarro!
The day started out at 2:30 am for me. I had a 6:30 am flight out of Atlanta and I live an hour away. So, while the kids were still snug in bed and Grandma snoring away, Ken and I left to drop me at the airport. I got there and he just left me standing on the curb and said “I’ll see you tomorrow”. I was sad as I had left Naomi having a stomach bug the whole day before and I was missing them already. Using the eticket and the kiosk at the airport was a breeze and I headed for security. Security was realively uneventful other than they made us take off our shoes to save time. The flight took off about 10 minutes late, but all in all was a great flight.
Waiting for me at the bottom of the escaltors at MCO was Gregory from Quicksilver and he knew me right away. After getting my bag, we headed for the Allstar Music. It was a great ride, very quick, and full of conversation. I highly recommend Quicksilver!
I checked into the resort, but my room was ready. So, I stored my baggage and waited on Betsyann. We were to meet in the lobby at 9:30. It was about 9:05 so I decided to grab some breakfast. I went to the food court and got a breakfast platter. A lot of food for a great price. I then called Betsyann on her cell phone and asked where she was. She said, “getting checked in”. I quickly finished breakfast and headed to meet my friend I had not seen in 2 years, but talked to daily! It was so great seeing her again and meeting The mom.
Betsyann’s room was ready so we headed to drop off their luggage and got ready to take their car back. We had to drop it off at Marriott World Center which is not very far from The Magic Kingdom. What a beautiful hotel! The pool was incrediable. I told Betsyann that if I ever priceline again, I may try for this resort.
After we dropped off the car, the girl from the rental car place, dropped us off at the TTC. We then boarded the monorail and headed for The Magic Kingdom! As got thru security, we stopped to take pictures of some of the Mickey statues outside the gates. While I thought the Mickeys were cute, I thought them all lined up there make it look like a garage sale. So, I’m not sure where I stand on the Mickey statue issue. LOL
Once inside, and seeing the castle, my heart started pounding and I started to tear up. I was finally here. I had just been here in July, but I was here with one of my best friends that loves Disney just as much as I do and someone who actually “gets it”.
Our first stop was Mickey’s Philharmagic. Oh my word what a show! I laughed so hard, and loved every single second of it! After it was over, I believe my words were “again! Again!” LOL. We then haunted mansion, which I love, but can not get my kids on it. We saw the hidden Donald’s and looked for Hidden Mickeys. Looking for Hidden Mickeys is one of my favorite things to do, so we had a blast looking the whole week. We got The Mom of Splash and got a great picture for proof. I rode with a 14 year old girl, whose mom was waiting for her at the end. She was so cute, had such a great time, and even put up 1 hand during the big drop. The man sitting in the first row had avoided the ride, the whole week, but finally gave into his family to ride. He was shaking the whole time and even said “I’ll be the one screaming like a girl”. So when it came time for the big drop, we were all yelling at him “ Let me hear you scream like a girl” and sure enough, he did. He was all smiles when the ride was over and I think that boat had the most fun of the day!
It was getting close to 1 pm, so we decided to head over to the Dole Whip meet. Everybody was already there and you could tell they were just having a great time. After everybody figured out who we were, and we chatted for a bit, Betsyann and I told them we were going to get our Dole Whip. ( I have add here, that introducing my self as Cheri, thru everybody for a loop. But saying “Hi I’m LimeGreenCheri” just didn't roll off my tongue. LOL) While we were standing in line, we noticed a group picture happening, so Betsyann and I missed out on the group picture. After we returned with the dole whips, we did get a picture with ddoll, and NancyBJ’s DD. Everybody was taking pictures of the 4 of us, it’s too bad we didn’t get another group shot. We’ll just have to have a “do over” next time! I so enjoyed meeting Cinderella, Happy Camper, NancyBJ, Hockeymom, FlSharon, and all the spouses. NancyBJ’s dd gave out lollipops with Mickey pins. Thanks NancyBJ!!
After the Dole whip meet, we headed over to Pirates! Again, other favorite. We had fun talkling about the differences between the DL Pirates and the WDW Pirates and looking for hidden Mickeys.
After a few more attracations, we decided to head over to the Polynesian to get a PS for ‘Ohana. We got there about 4 pm, put our name on the list and got a lava flow. We say down above the waterfall, looking out across the Seven Seas lagoon and had a great time relaxing and chatting.
We got one of the first seatings at ‘Ohana, and I have to say, this is my new favorite place to eat at WDW! :eat: The only thing I did not enjoy were the stir fry green beans. I’m from the south, and we boil our green beans all day with fat back! There is no blanching of vegetables for us. LOL The turkey was great, but the steak and shrimp were my favorites!
After a great dinner, we decided to head back to the resort. I was exhausted since I had been up since 2:30 am. My bag was in my room when I got there. I got settled in and had no trouble going to sleep. That is until the phone rang with a voice saying “what are you doing”. It was MargaretJ, whom I promptly told “sleeping”. LOL We chatted for a bit and I was excited to say “ See you on Friday”. I had no trouble going back to sleep because tomorrow was CRT for breakfast and my family would be arriving.
