Day 10 11/9/03 – Onboard the Magic, Key West

We began today with brunch at Palo’s at 10:30AM. We really enjoyed the brunch as this is the perfect meal for us. I love breakfast and Darrell prefers lunch. I don’t remember all we had but I some really tasty bread with homemade strawberry and apricot jams on it and Darrell had the chicken cacciatore. Louise was our server and she did a great job explaining where everything was and what options were available.

Our port for the day was Key West. After disembarking we headed to Hemingway House. This was the only place we planned to go to as we really wanted to see the 6-toed cats. After hiking in high humidity approx. 9 blocks we arrived and paid our $10 each to be admitted. We opted to self-tour and began exploring. As we passed tour groups we would listen to various stories about Hemingway and the cast then continue on. We enjoyed our visits and the cats were adorable! We then headed back for the ship. Adjusting to the humidity was tough. We both grew up in PA where Phila can be really humid, but living in the desert in CA we have lost our acclimation. (Though my skin and hair loved all of that moisture!)

Once back on board we went to the pool and hot tubs. Hung out in the hot tub for awhile then went for ice cream at Scoops. Naps were the next thing on the agenda. Have to be rested for dinner.

Our show for the evening was Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer. Unfortunately neither of us got a chance for the Hot Seat. (If you to be eligible you need to be sitting in the front half of the theater or the handicapped section.) The highest we saw anyone get was a $400 shipboard credit. Next we had dinner at Animator’s Palate.

We decided to go to the 10:45 showing of Cold Creek Manor. What a horrible movie and it didn’t end until 12:45AM!

Day 11 11/10/03 Day at Sea –

Today we were going to our first spa appointment onboard either ship. We had reserved the Surial Spa for 8:45AM. While we enjoyed this not sure if we would do it again. The water in the steam room collected on the floor and I found it scalding to stand in. I had to run one of the hoses the whole time with ice cold water on my feet so I could even tolerate the heat. And the shower never really got hot. We were given a large assortment of products to try and a huge bowl of mud. Also there was no pressure to buy anything.

Next we were off the our character breakfast. This was ok but we were running late leaving the spa so we didn’t really get anytime with the characters or see the show they do. Food was good though. After breakfast we tried our hand at bingo. This is an extremely expensive activity I thought. 5 games for $35 dollars! Each card had 6 chances but still seemed like a lot. We shared one pack of cards and unfortunately did not win anything. From here we needed another nap….

Lunch today was at Parrot Cay for the Oriental Buffet. Darrell enjoyed his made to order stirfry. I’m not positive but I think I only ate rice and fruit. After lunch we went to an Art of Entertaining class on cake and plate decorating. Darrell even went with me and I think he enjoyed it more than I did. We each got to try our hand at the cake decorating.

Decided to go back and hang-out on the verandah reading until it was time to get ready for the show and dinner. Tonights entertained was Darren Romeo. He was performing for 5 weeks until Golden Mickey’s would premiere. He was good but I prefer my magic Penn & Teller style.

We posed for a formal portrait in the atrium before heading for Parrot Cay for dinner. Tonight was formal night so they had lots of pictures ops available. We posed for one more picture after dinner as well. Then we headed back to the theater for the autograph session with Darren Romeo to get a signed picture for the friend who was feeding our cats back home. Stopped and bought a deck of cards on the way back and played rummy for awhile. I know we could do this at home but it is so nice to be lazy on vacation at times.
